Update:
HOUSTON -- A motorcyclist was killed in a collision on a north Houston freeway early Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said the rider slammed into the back of a minivan in the northbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway near Bennington Street shortly before 1 a.m.

The motorcyclist was thrown off his bike and killed. His name was not released.

Police said the 16-year-old minivan driver was ticketed for driving without a license. His mother was also ticketed for allowing her son to drive without a license, officials said.

The freeway was closed for several hours while police conducted an investigation.

CHRONICLE

A man was killed early today when his motorcycle struck the rear of a van at high speed on the Eastex Freeway, Houston police said.

The accident occurred about 12:20 a.m. as both vehicles were heading north on U.S. 59 North at Crosstimbers.

The motorcyclist was traveling at high speed when his Yamaha hit the rear of a Dodge Caravan driven by an unlicensed 16-year-old boy, according to Sgt. D.S. Runyan and Officer S.M. Johnson of the HPD vehicular crimes division.

The man, who was in his 20s, died at the scene. His identity was to be verified by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

The teenager was cited for driving without a license. His mother, who was riding with him, was ticketed for allowing him to drive, police said.
