this comes ro rider preference....no way we can post numbers even close to what the factory tells it can do...so it comes down to which you feel more comfy on...and which one you think looks better. r1 looks cleaner in my opinion...and i love suzuki, so that says a lot...like i've said in past posts..i hat the integrated turn signals in the mirrors..and the rear turn signals makes the back end look bulky....

but like it said, its up to what you prefer.!!!!

easiest way to word it. the way i look at bikes and now exhuasts...is theyre all about the same. one might be slightly better than the other, but one might be better in another category than the other. theyre both gonna have advans and disadvans. just get what YOU like. i almost got an r6, but i looked at the 600rr and fell in love.

Both awesome bikes. The R1 is a little more forgiving, (if anyone can say a liter bike is forgiving)
Have you sat on either of them? How do they fit you? Have you checked insurance rates?
If possible try to hook up a ride on both bikes.
The GSXR is a rush with all the immediate power available, but anything that wants to simultaneously wheelie / spin up the rear tire at 120, while on the gas coming out of a corner, is so much of a handful that riding it on the street is no fun for me.
While it's cool to have that happen occasionally when you want it to, having it happen often requires more focus then I want to put into street riding.
The R1 is less prone to do this but is still a lot of motorcycle and will bite if not highly respected.

I'm not trying to say you can't handle either of them because I have no idea what your skill level is. I agree with most that a 600 is probably a better route but you're a grown man. I've owned quite a few liter bikes myself.

If you need help with pricing let me know and I can make a few phone calls and see what's still available. Also, Ted over at Tomball Suzuki had an '05 GSXR1000 with 400 miles on it for $8500.00, a smoking deal. Tell him I sent you.

As a K5 owner, I can say that it is very easy to ride. The sheer power amazes me every time I ride it. The Suzuki, contrary to Patrick thoughts, is easier to ride. It has a better chasis and will hold a line much better. The Yamaha looks cool, but that's about it.
The great think about the Big Gixxer is it has power everywhere, right where you need it in real world riding. You have to rev the snot out of the R1 to get anything.
Go with the Suzuki. It is also much more comfy too....
