Stealing license plates????

I just got back from school awhile ago and when I was turning into my neighborhood I got pulled over by a cop. I didn't know why at first except for maybe I was going 5-10 mph over the speed limit? Anyways he pulled me over because my license plate isn't on. I looked at it and it was broken off! WTF! I know I couldn't have possibly just rode around and it fell off due to the vibration. I had a fender eliminator on it and the license plate just sticks out. Anyone know why someone would steal a license plate, and how can I get this bracket that holds the license plate

Yeah, and get a new plate before ten days so they will dismiss the ticket in case the LEO gave you one.

That's wut im thinking, stole it to look legal, but what happens if they get pulled over? Anyone know where to buy the mount for the license plate? They broke that off along with it.

I dont think it fell off, I looked under the tail and it still had the screws in place and on tight.
