So if you had heard of a Walmart helmet you would buy it?

no offense,

but i have worn a Gmax helmet and its the worst helmet ever.
its JUNK. i know arai, shoei ect. fit to preference, but Gmax is just flat out JUNK. feels cheap, paddings cheap, its heavy and i heard they fall apart.
a friend picked one up on the way back from the Stubbs stunt show, and before we got to our area, a peice of the helmet had flew off from the wind.

if your broke and need a lid, go for it

and lighter.

And I mentioned my cheap Icon being better. So I know that it isnt about money.

BTW...found my newest Suomy on CL for 225.00.

Arai Quantum Haga replica for $250.00 on CL.

Icon for $60.00 on CL

Icon mainframe (free with bike)

Scorpion free with bike (dont know the model)

So...you dont have to spend $700 on a $700 helmet either.

That's why I think it has a LOT to do with the individual, not just the brand. We have an Icon too and I can't stand the way it fits. However, my Nolan X-lite fits me great and nobody else can seem to wear the thing

If you dont have more than 60 bux to spend. Then go for it. You can probably find a GMax on CL for 30 bux.

my $.02,
There are some models of Shoei that are pretty well known for pieces flying off also.

Look HJC has some models that are just junk also but then there are some that aren't.

So when you say that GMAX is just junk, what are you saying about some of us who are currently wearing more than one and having a great experience with them? Are we liars? Are we on the payroll of GMAX? What?

No thats just plain silly. Your just asking for trouble with one of those. Thats like trusting Pep Boys to install the turbo kit on your car. It just doesn't make sense.

Granted this is all opinion anyway. If your comfortable with the helmet, go with it kid. I use a KBC Force-S. Is it the best, no. Do I like it, yes. I bought it when it was the new model, got a military discount on it so it was all good. Its loud as at speed but thats why I use ear plugs.

These helmets are loud and heavy. The one I had...the visor would fly open when I checked back for traffic.

YOU ARE GETTING BAD ADVICE.

Heavy? My Shark is heavier, and hotter.
The finish is holding up a of a lot better too. Fits better & more comfortable them my Sohei or Suomy (sp?).

More detent options, and the shield seems to hold in place better and a 'larger' view option than others I've had.

Crash-wise? Who knows, I have yet to find any REAL comparisions/tests.

Walmart carries BELL... you might want to go check the performance ratings on some of those 'cheap' helmet.

As for GMAX beyond unknown? Webbikeworld got ahold of one and liked it. <shrug> I've seen em slap down some more expensive 'bigger name' helmets.

I'll just conceed that it is personal preference.

Yes I know Walmart carries BELL helmets, I have seen the helmets they carry there and they look cheap. When Wally World carries the BELL Star I might think about getting one from them. Granted I can only go off of what I have read, but the Star is the first BELL I have read anything positive about.

As for webbikeworld... pardon my ignorance as I have never gone to that site until today. I will have to check them out some more before I put any worth on their writings.

I have six helmets; close to your 8 helmet requirement.

Have a friend not on the board that some of you met w a black gsxr6 that was totalled. He rode w a GMAX helmet. It was a modular; seemed like almost double the size of my HJC modular. His fogged up in the summer w his breath so he always kept it up or had to keep the lense cracked.

I sweat enough as it is; he wore mesh when he rode to help cool down. He did get his on ebay for less then 100 new; Im proud of him for the deal but he went off in grass when he wrecked and the helmet is no good anymore.

It is a personal preference and until you try several brands AFTER they break in not just on the shelf you won't know where you should go. Talk to some experienced riders on the track and people w mileage and time on their side. They will offer experience based on, well, their experience.

I continue to try out new brands as deals come along. Some I keep others I turn around and sell right away. On rides that I know I need protection, I wear one that I know fits and protects me.
