To harrass and annoy...

Seriously, DPS needs that on their cars. Tonight I was on the way to work and saw lights behind me. Figured it was for the pipes, or the lack of turn signals, possibly even the bars, but no. Apparently my factory stock, DOT approved license plate light isn't bright enough. The light and plate bracket both came from Harley with the bike and aren't altered in any way, but he thinks it's not bright enough? Yeah, this is gonna get dismissed, even if I have to spend 10 times what it's worth on a lawyer.

I'm too close to the Woodlands on a Harley, I'm guessing. I typically ride under the limit unless I'm trying to get out of a cluster of cages. Yeah, the XLH is loud as , and I look like a 's Angel, but I'm not driving 45 down a street full of kids or drag racing on Riley Fuzzel.

There isn't a law stating how bright it needs to be. It just has to have one.

next the law will read that it needs so many lumens

sorry to hear about that!
Yeah, I'm planning on talking to someone at the Harley dealer this week. I'm willing to pay whoever is willing to go play witness their hourly wage for the time they'll have to take off. I halfway suspect the dealership will send 'em on the clock just to make a point.

This is the second time a state trooper has pulled me over for a BS reason, the first time was on the Buell just outside of Bay City. I was doing under the limit in the right lane, being passed by duallies and trailers on the left, and I got pulled over for speeding. First, I was going slower than everyone else, second, I have a much smaller radar cross section than anything else out there. Purely harassment.

btw i feel like a lot of the boys on these new harleys now are just weekend warriors dressing up as pirates... doctors and lawyers who should be playing golf lol. ok ok i'm being mean and ignorant. i'll hush it up. but saying that in the woodlands i see them all the time. choppers too
It's been that way for years, and I blame Jay Leno. They ride to Starbucks and back once a week so they can play biker. Fortunely I'm not one of them. I ride every day. I drive so little that it just feels weird in the truck now. We had to go to the med center last night and the wheel felt tiny after riding the Harley so much lately.

Yup, Shenadoh! and Joke Ridge are both notorious around here. MCSD, however, is awesome. They never fail to impress me with how they handle situations and the extremely few times they've pulled me over it's been for something I deserved or to just give me a heads up about something I didn't know about.

For example, last week a Deputy pulled me over to tell me my brake light wasn't working. No ticket, not even a written warning. I had just changed my bars and had to drill out a screw in the switchgear that houses the brake light switch, and the housing had walked off the bar about 1/8" so the switch was stuck on (Harley front brake light switches are normally closed, the lever usually sits on it and holds it open, so it failed closed). Then a couple of days later I had stopped for a smoke at American Dream Cycles just after their silent alarm went off (I didn't do it!). The Deputy that responded did her job, got my ID, asked a few questions, and spent half the time telling me my bike looked good. And she was hot.

I don't have that "all cops are dicks" attitude, I know that most of them are just doing their job, but in any group there's going to be a jackass. I may well be the official jackass here. My father in law and brother in law are both cops, and both ride. Dad (the new chief at TSU) rides an Electraglide, brother (think he's with Giddings PD, or somewhere in that part of the world) rides a Victory.

Ok, rant over. I'm gonna go reassemble the bike now. I (unsuccessfully) attempted to put some spacers in the forks. It takes more hands and horsepower than I have handy to shove those springs in with an extra inch of compression.
