Something exploded.

Ok, so on my way home tonight I was accelerating from a stop at a leisurely pace. At about 5k rpm there was a pretty darn loud explosion and I felt it under and to the side of my left leg. I was thinking it could be backfire, but it was too low RPM and my exhaust is on the right side.
The bike stalled. I restarted it and after a few cranks it came to life again. Drove home just fine.

I know my carbs are dirty but what could it have possible been?

sounds like a backfire to me. you might have felt the air exiting from the airbox if it stalled the bike.

No, but I did consider that as an option for a second.

Did you leave the choke on? fill the exhaust with unburnt fuel? And was there a purty bright blue light on the right?
