from this forum:

http://www.kawiforums.com/showthread...hlight=beeping

It says this is a known issue with kawi's and is reported on the 250's and 6's in this thread.... it says

"Took the bike out for a second time to day and heard the beeping (not too bad - just every now and then). Only when it occurred when the engine was off did we figure out is was the gas tank (there is a very faint hissing sound at the end of the beep that I would have never have heard had the engine been running.) Before today, I had been certain it was a beep (like a warning sound) - now I believe it's just a hissing sound that amazingly sounds like a "beep.""

and another forum... "Just got my 250R Feb. 14th and I know exactly what you're talking about it freaked me out like something was wrong with the bike. Its actually the seal or something from the gas cap and the pressure makes a high pitched noise sometimes, I called my dealer and he knew exactly what it was. Next time I heard it I put my ear over the gas cap and heard the noise. Just push down on it when you hear that noise and it should go away for a little while. But anyways there is no speaker or anything on the bike because I investigated lol but the noise I heard sounded like a beep too so I know what you were going through. Nothing is wrong with the bike though if that is any reassurance."

and another.... My Z750 is making a strange whistling/beeping sound. It's not loud but very high pitched and I can hear it well when the engine is in idle.
Does anyone know what it could be ? It's driving me mad.

You might have two different problems happening simultaneously. Next time you here the beeping, open the gas tank and see if it stops. Based on info in the forums, it should. Now why the bike is dying, might be another issue.

Perhaps a motorcycle wrench could comment on whether you could get enough pressure in the gas tank that the bike would quit running. Personally, I'd be surprised if that would cause the bike to die.

pop your gas cap and see if it quits. That is exactly what mine was doing and I was told it is like a vapor alarm letting you know that the fuel in your tank is expanding due to the heat. It is irratating but as long as I am riding I let it wail but when i stop i pop the cap and it stops.

Likey as Curt mentioned above; you are just now noticing the kawi noise from the venting cap.

As for it dying on you, the battery would be fine if you can crank and it starts. A stator would not allow the bike to charge and kill it while the lights are dimming, etc.

1)Is it cutting off as it comes to idle? In other words, if you rev the throttle while starting it will it continue to run?

2)Will it start and run cold? then die when hot or warm?

Your idle could be adjusted too low for number 1 or another problem; number 2 points to something in the gas clogging the filter and killing the bike.

Tonight at 640 I'm seeing a movie but after that I have two other people w bikes to help on minor things(exhaust) and removing a wheel for my other friend in the Woodlands area. If you arent getting anywhere else with it, text me and we can talk about the bike or I can come by or meet you in a parkinglot somewhere if you prefer to look it over really quick.

I'll send my number in a PM for u.

It's probably the gases is escaping through the gas cap and hissing/buzzing. You probably flooded the engine. Try to roll the throttle all the way, hold it and start it.

As for the dying out part, if it continues frequently take it to your dealer for warranty repair.

Here's the curious part: in her opening post she said "...And I was riding today and I'm at a stop sign and my bike dies on me and starts beeping from the gas tank. "

That's what has me wondering if there are actually two problems. First is the bike dying... and second and totally unrelated is the venting of the gas tank.

I have the same bike. The gas tank will "squeal" when it is letting out pressure from the tank...this is perfectly normal. The Pet that they are referring to is on the left side of the bike and has 3 setings...On, off and reserve. First make sure it is NOT on reserve, it should be ON. Does the bike turn over but not run? if so, pull the choke in a little and try again. Can you push start by popping the clutch? If so, then your ignition may be out.

No all this happened to me after riding for about 45 mins. But, I tried letting my gas tank air out....and it WORKD. So thanks sooo much. I guess it is a safety mechanism or something.

Make sure to remember to turn the choke off after the bike warms up. I still forget sometimes on the chopper and have it die on me at a stop.
