Painting fairings

Okay, I'm really sick of the stock look, and I'm wanting to do something with the fairings. I'll eventually get them professionaly painted, but for now I figure why not have some fun with it.

My question is, what's a good brand of rattle-can paint for the plastics? I already know I'll need to sand down a bit, especially since the huge wing is raised, as well as the F4i logos and such.

Suggestions? Experiences?

if you are going to rattle can it, Ive used the higher end duplicolor at wal mart with good results, its about 7 bux a can

I did 4 primers 4 paints and 4 clears... (coatings)

I think it cost me about 100 bux or less.(and a BUNCH of rprep time)

Make sure the logos are painted and not decals; you don't want to paint over decals.

yeah, I'll be checking. it looks like some of them could be decals with a coating over them, but I think the white CBR600 and/or the F4i ones might be decals. fixing to check.

Duplicolor worked for my lower fairings before. You can order factory color matched spray paints online... but if you are looking for a light color, the base will effect it... so if you're not primering the color will finish a little different then expected. And Clearcoat in a can and 1000 grit is available at O'Reilly's.

all decals on fairings can be removed and SHOULD be removed prior to paint.....the decals on the tank will be under the clear, and the correct way to do it is break past the clear coat and remove the decal.....or you can just lay a load of primer over it and sand it smooth (easier to just remove it).

fyi, any bodyshop you take your rattle canned fairings to will charge you even more to re-paint it. not because they want to be dicks....but because rattle can is a pain in the to work with and is not chemical friendly with professional grade automotive paint.

for the amount of time and money you spend on painting it yourself.....maybe i can give you a nice price for some paint. PM me if you are interested.
