I wouldn't waste another dime on a lojack-off system.

There's a lojack on my truck that I bought new in '00. This is a summary of a real conversation with the lojack rep when I called to let them know my ride had been stolen...(kinda imagine the OnStar commercials)

Uh hello lojack? I was having lunch and someone stole my truck from the parking lot. There's glass where my truck was parked, I'm certain it's been stolen.

-lojack rep **have you called the police?

Yeah, they're sending someone out for a report...have you found my truck?

-lojack rep **Mr. S, your truck is no longer in Houston...(long pause)

Okay great, tell me where it's at!

-lojack rep **you don't understand, once your truck leaves the Houston area lojack can no longer track it. But hey, if they drive it to San Antonio, Dallas or El Paso we'll be glad to notify the authorities and let you know.

lojack, the worst sense of security that money can buy.

SO did they give you your truck back or what i mean whats the rest of the story...

THEY (I'm guessing you mean lojack) didn't give me . My truck was recovered in Corpus Christi with a pickle bucket for a seat and everything else was hmmm, borrowed? I carry only liability insurance on my vehicles so it cost me out the wazoo for happened.

OnStar (the other system) can track your vehicle anywhere in North America, whether or not you press the magic button. There's really no secret information that you can't find online about it. They can get a history of when your vehicle has been driven and how fast you have driven. The system is tops but you can only buy it with a new vehicle at the time of purchase. lojack, well just call their number and ask them where in Texas lojack works.

Unless I'm mistaken On Star is satellite based, which can be blocked by being in a garage or under even a heavy stand of trees. Onstar also doesn't offer anything for bikes.
Lojack works on FM radio waves, which are unaffected by things like buildings, walls, garages, etc.
Yes there are limitations, if your bike is not in an area with coverage it can't be tracked.
Houston area coverage currently is: Harris, Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers, Fort Bend, Hayes, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller counties. If your bike is stolen and transported out of this coverage area, it won't be picked up again till it hits another metropolitan area; i.e. San Antonio, Austin, etc.
Most bike thefts however stay local, this system will pick up even if the bike is in someone's apartment.
While no system is 100%, this is the best I've seen so far.

Agreed Patrick no system is 100%, if I had any sense at all I'd drop the $$$ to put one of these on my bike too. Bikes tend to stay close to home, driven into the ground and occassionally parted. A system like this in the city would quickly lead to the "soon to be and just as quickly released from jail" losers that prey on bikes.

My understanding is most do offer a discount if you have theft coverage.
I'll let you know next week when I call Geico on mine.

I sold my CBR1000RR a few months back, so now I just have an SV650S and a naked 1200 Bandit.
I'm probably done with supersport bikes on the street, too easy for me to go too fast and too tempting to put a knee down with no effort.
The SV is tricked out like our racebikes so it willl show it's taillight to a lot of bigger bikes on a curvy road, yet it doesn't eaily glide past the 130 mph mark while doing it.
The Bandit is just a fun bike to ride. It reminds me a lot of the first bikes I owned / raced.
