HOUSTON -- Deputies say a possible street race turned fatal overnight when a motorcyclist lost control of his bike while trying to kick the driver of a Mazda Miata.

The accident happened late Friday night in Harris County.

Sheriff's deputies say a father, his son, and a friend set off on their three motorcycles for a late night joyride when they encountered the Mazda at the intersection of Scarsdale and Beamer.

The three motorcycles chased the Mazda through a nearby neighborhood and back out onto the main street. That's when, witnesses say, one of the motorcyclists began trying to kick the driver of the Mazda while they were still driving.

The cyclist lost control of his bike and slammed into a tree. He was not wearing a helmet and died on impact.

This collision is under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office Accident Division.

Deputies say the car and bike may have touched each other just before the crash.

well even if half the story is true at some point ya gotta just let some go. we all know riding a bike is dangerous, we all know cars eff with us all the time and we know in a confrentation with a car they have the size advantage. unless they kidnapped one of my kids I don't think I would be trying to chase a car down and kick in the door. that is what getting license plate numbers and getting at them later is for.

Of course you're joking there BC, fishing weights would work much better than ball bearings...of course I'm joking too.

Really sad though, what a waste of life and opportunity to show your kid how to handle things properly.

With road rage, someone will end up in the hospital. If there was a car and motorcycle involved, 80% chance that the motorcyclist will get hurt.

bet the guy in the miata was scared as . i know i would be if bikes were all around acting stupid... this is where one might use a hand gun to protect themselves from three idiots.
Discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle is about the most reckless thing you can do with a gun in my opinion. You have no way to properly aim and even if you do you have no guarantee you will not hit an innocent bystander. And even then, would you really want to shoot at someone on a motorcycle, even if you didn't kill them they are certain to wreck and possibly take out other cars/bikes in the process.

The fact of the matter is none of us have all the facts surrounding this situation so you cannot make any assumptions.

Sad to say... for every hundred bikers a non-rider will see.. the one acting an and riding like a worm is the one that sticks in their memory.

My condolences to his family and friends. RIP

Opinion (I don't know what happened, only the people involved know the entire truth and even that is skewed because each person will interpret the situation differently). I had an experience when driving the M coupe down I45S; 3 bikes pulled up next to me 1 on the fast lane 2 on the slow lane and I in the middle lane. My cruise control was set to 68mph, it was 2am with no traffic. 1 bike on the fast lane does a wheelie and stays nesxt to my driver side window. Another one on the slow lane does the same thing then sets it down and downshifts taking off and slowing down to taunt me into a race I guess. All the while the guy on the fast lane is still wheeling. The 2 on the slow lane keep taunting. I on the other hand just wanted out of the situation as I kept envisioning a wreck with one of these guys. I start slowing down and at one point was going 55 and they did the same. I increased speed and they did the same. So I decided wth and downshifted and took off....well here they come. I try to exit Texas City but the 2 on the right lane would not allow it. The one on the left is now doing a spreader. The other two on the slow lane pop wheelies. I am now aggravated and frustrated and they seem to be coming so close to me that if I had poked out my hand from the window I would have been able to touch their bikes. Finally I slowed down so much by jabbing the brakes that they decided to leave me alone. That is my story.

There is more to life than a little arguement. If it had been left alone he would be with his family today. That is what I did to the people that antagonized me and all of us are still in one piece today.

Wow, thats the neighborhood I grew up in. I think its safe to say that only 40% of the story was given. We moved out of that area when it started getting bad. The name of the neighborhood is Sageglen but people now call it GaugeGlen...not that the riders or the miata were even from the area, just speculating

RIP for the downed rider though
