OK, here is the plan:

Meet at the Times Square Plaza on the 99 feeder. Exit 743 off I-10, go South on Grandparkway 99 (stay on feeder). 4/10th mile on right is Times Square Plaza.

Meet time is 9 am. We'll have a short meeting at 9 so don't be late.

I'll be the old bald fat guy on the "primer" Bandit.

From there is a short 13 mile stint on I-10 and then back roads to lunch.

We'll get feedback and see how it goes, but yes. I plan to do this a little more often than once a year.. .. and hopefully others will take up the lead as well.

Time permitting of course.

I just see some issues with new people showing up for some of the normal group rides, and getting frustrated and/or over their heads trying to keep up. This way you can walk before you try to run. And on this ride we will be crawling, please everyone understand that.

Plus it still amazes me how many riders can go many miles to and from work, and short trips, but mess up the first time they get out on the backroads in a group. Not trying to put anyone down or point any fingers. On the contrary everyone I know that leads group rides does everything they can to accomodate everyone; but sometimes it just doesn't work.

The basic issue is my "normal, comfortable" pace is someone else's "OMFG" pace.. and I have the same problems with others that go faster.... basically until you get some miles under your belt, knowing your own pace is very hard.

This is no substitute for a track day if you want to really learn what your bike can do; this is just our way to give back some of the road lessons we've learned the hard way over the years. My personal opinion and experience is that riding back roads and tracks are two seperate animals, and need some different approaches.

Anyhow.. sorry for the long winded explanation!

One of the main reasons I haven't gone on group rides is due to my skills are not where they need to be for them. Don't want to put myself or others in danger. Riding too and from work has been helping but still have a long way to go. Cornering is a shoot for me right now. Some corners are decent others are oh sh#@!

Just keep in mind that depending on the number of noobs I may be thinning the herd a bit. I need people comfortable in their seats to give the noobs some constructive help.. I was looking to have close to an even number noob/experienced, with an extra sweeper (official poser coach) and myself leading, since it is hard to watch in the mirrors sometimes. I also might just swap up and let someone else lead a stretch, so be aware.

I'll pick and choose based on riders I know, so nothing personal.

Also don't want to get too big of a group because of the style we'll be riding, which can quickly become a clusterf__k. This is specifically to help these guys/gals learn, so check the egos at the door please!

Just an FYI. And I also expect some of the usual attrition before next weekend.
