Rider Dead in Temple

Guys, please be safe out there.

Neil wasn't wearing ANY gear; he was riding a cruiser and was actually hugging the yellow line. Had he been closer to the outside of the lane, he may have fared better.

Please pray for his family.

A Temple man who had to have his leg amputated in a motorcycle accident last night died Thursday morning.

It happened just before 9:30 Tuesday night on Highway 317 between Adams and Airport Road in Temple.

Police say Neil Olsen was riding a motorcycle north on Highway 317 when an SUV heading the opposite direction tried to pass a car and crashed into the motorcycle.

Olsen was taken to Scott and White hospital where he later died. The driver of the SUV received minor injuries.

Neil Olesen of Temple, who was seriously injured Tuesday night when an SUV struck the motorcycle he was riding, died early Wednesday morning at Scott & White Hospital, police said.

Olesen was riding his 2006 Honda motorcycle north around 9:25 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 317 when the driver of a southbound Lexus SUV pulled into the northbound lane to pass another vehicle.

The Lexus, whose driver police identified as Harry Charles Pemberton of Morgan’s Point, struck the motorcycle.

Olesen was flown by helicopter to Scott & White with what police described as multiple serious injuries.

He died around 3 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

An autopsy was ordered.

Pemberton received minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.

He was treated and later released, police said.

No charges have
