Strange chase

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man on a motorcycle caught the attention of Bellaire police.
He then took off, leading officers on a chase.

It all started when a motorcyclist started circling the scene of a traffic stop in which Bellaire officer had a different driver pulled over.

Police became curious as to why the motorcyclist was circling them, so they tried to pull him over. That's when the chase began.

The chase was brief and ended on Westpark near Edloe when the motorcyclist hit a curb and then a tree, throwing the rider from the motorcycle.

That driver landed in the street and suffered massive head trauma.
Authorities say the motorcyclist is in his mid 20s and was not wearing a helmet. The man is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

It's too bad the guy is in critical condition. Some road rash and the felony for evading would have been lesson enough...

But this brings up an interesting point, SO MANY bikers confess that they have or would run from the law (especially during group rides, the 'scatter like roaches' when the light come on idea). I was arrested recently for allegedly doing a wheelie and have been told numerous times that I should have ran. I say all this because I want to express how incredibly and ridiculously stupid running from the police is. I don't get why people think this could ever be a better alternative than getting some misdemeanor level ticket (even if you'll get a felony, why tack another one on top of that). So for you folks reading this that would give me the same 'just run' advice, do everyone a favor, especially yourself, and just take the ticket and be on you merry way (and stop encouraging people to act the same stupid way). Ok, I'll get off my soap box. This just really annoys me, especially the fact that this is such a commonly held idea in our community.

Daniel-son - I agree - you pretty much guarantee that you will go to jail, and likely will wreck too - is it really that important? Well, the kids think they're invincible and can out maneuver and all that... seems simple enough right? But then their actions also hurt the rest of us since cops will be more surveillant on us because of it.

I would suggest that it's a smaller community than you suggest though. And some who would 'claim' to be runners are probably just posers and wouldn't have the guts anyway.

That Harley dude must've had something else going on in his head though - that was just STOOPID!

More than likely they were together and he wanted the cops to chase him before they found whatever was in the car. Warrants on other driver ect.
