3090 or the forest?

Forest was clear when groups 2 and 3(remaining) cruised back together.

Easiest thing to do would have been to go to "advance search" and search the guy's username

But what can we do when people want to go slow in the corners then fast in the straits? It should be the other way around. It is my intention to set up a safe and fun experience.

Well put... and now I see where the quote came from...

And also that he should have chosen a different group for his first group ride.

As far as I'm reading, the "fast" group was small. I guess a dozen or so? That still leaves more than SEVENTY riders to split into only TWO groups?

Groups should be 15 or less, preferably less than 10. How do you even figure out if your sweep rider is back there at an intersection if you can't count the number of bikes in your mirrors?

If y'all do this again and I can make it, I will GLADLY volunteer to lead the "I'm as slow as grandma but always get home in one piece while still having fun" group.

For those whom haven't gone lately;

The regulars alternate leader/sweeper positions for all groups. So they aren't ballz-to-wallz every ride.

Group three...

we set the speed limit, period. We dont go over it in the straights, often slower so the rest of the group if separated a little, catches up.

corner speeds...we ride posted speed limit (curves so-so) nor double over a recommended speed from warning signs. I watch the mirrors on almost every corner to see how the ride is progressing and slow down accordingly.

we are met at each intersection by the other group

all gestures are used including brake flashing and slow down signals for upcoming corners after straights, or if the warning speed signs change dramatically, if on a corner that is problem prone, etc...

I do get riders saying it was fun but next time maybe we can step it up a bit. That's not group 3... we ride those everytime... I think I have three or four that ride w me continuously for some time. I usually start out in front on a Sat MR so I can do some cornering then I use to slow down and find a niche and opening between the groups to give a good pace and line.

So the people to lead or set up these rides do care for those who ride this ride, I assure you... That's where Hooligans' thread came from a couple weeks ago... Alot of riders w alot of heart. I don't have half their numbers nor speak to half of them during the whole ride or fellowship time at Yankees; but my week isn't complete until I spend it with this group.

The groups were perhaps a bit large, and it's ok to turn your head and look back for the sweeper....

But honestly, no one foresaw the size of this monster, so they didn't have a ready supply of leaders/sweepers even remotely familiar with the route/roads.

All in all it appears the usual suspects getting a little over their heads tested their offroad abilities... I've seen it happen at moderate pace in slow groups more than a few times. Hopefully they got an ego check and will come back out again and try it again.

And I might add that perhaps even a more baby duckling group needs to be in place for absolute group noobs that are still getting their feet wet. Even the posted warning speed on a curve can be too much for them.

Wait for sweeper to come forward and block, thumbs etc... Always visual...

And we always welcome any rider, experience is a plus

When I say any rider, we had a few w low mileage on their bikes that were practicing corners for first time. Im proud of them and the individual time I spent with them throughout the ride there(front group 3) and back(u know who u r, awesome job...). They had a great time, riding at their pace, their comfort. 3090 is a no-joke road; also a great one to learn on w enough patience, restraint and considerate riders around you.

It's all speeding.. and you are just as dead at 80 as 150..

You have to know they are not going like that thru the curvy sections.. I would hope you realize that anyhow.

Yup. We'll have to do it again sometime. I'm getting back into local riding (all those cool east coast roads kinda spoiled me) so I'll post something up sooner than later.
