People wait on their frame sliders get them when its too late. I know from experience... four times... ya...

Unless the vehicle holds itself up, you're arguing w gravity so falling is always an option

For what it's worth I think a lot of the straight out squids with NO gear wouldn't necessarily be on a site like this. Of course it can happen, and I'm sure there a plenty of non gear wearers on this site, but those who pose and don't have much of a passion for it, just riding for the look occasionally, not to be better riders don't really spend much time reading and researching and expanding knowledge about motorcycles. I'd wager that percentage wise the crowd here is safer than the average joe squid out there, and its because they have a passion for riding. My personal guess. I can't afford full leathers or I'd probably have a set. I wear $99 mesh pants with armor for pants, as I figure still way better than jeans, and a pair of waterproof for stormy weather. For upper, Alpinestars SMK leather jacket, and a Troy Lee Leather Speed Jacket (my equivalent of mesh protection, won't go lower than that).

I rode to the self car wash place today on the KX....shorts, flip flops, and shades. I rode a whopping .25 miles on public roadways with no license plates nor insurance...please don't flame me. I knew the risks involved. As for street riding. I always wore jacket, gloves, and helmet...especially after seeing a few friends wreck. Prior to that, I never rode with anything less than a helmet and gloves. I too was a squid back in the day.

I usually wear my gear (when I'm going to a MotoHouston sanctioned event.lol) no,but seriously I used to always wear it until the Harley guy at Hooters (true story) told me I did not need it unless I planned on going down. And since I never plan on falling I do not need ne gear. I blame this all on a certain instructor who said a 600 was too powerful and dangerous so I sold it and bought a Harley. I know I could have gotten a 250, but I did not want a dirtbike I wanted a streetbike, so there is my reason.

disagree. if it gets over 95-98 its been written about the fact its better to be fully geared and you'll stay cooler and more hydrated than just a tshirt etc.

always helmet, usually jacket (i don't count mesh, as it's not likely to help much in a crash, but i'll wear it around the neighborhood), always boots, now that i have another pair, always gloves.

i'd like to get some leg protectors to wear under my jeans (knee/shin guards).

i wore shorts one time going to play tennis 1 mile away, burnt my leg on my exhaust... won't do that again.

All the gear I can wear.

But I think one complaint is - it takes quite a bit of time to get geared up for a short trip. I could see people being frustrated with that - but I just remind myself - I really don't want to die on a ride (then my mother would be right, and we can't have that! LOL)

The 'heat' thing is a problem - and so here in Houston, I just wouldn't commute on a motorcycle if I had to look good and be well-dressed for work - end of discussion, unless there was a shower and change of clothes waiting for me. But I'm going to buy a 'cool-vest' to control heat....

I have one question for an earlier post-er - am I really a squid because I wear textile jacket?
