let's hear your reason

So like the title says....I wanna hear your reason for not wearing proper gear for riding. Those who know me know that I wear full gear everytime out. So for those that don't I would like to know what runs through your head to justify not protecting yourself. And no I don't want to hear "cause I can".... I know this is america... give me good reasons and be creative.

this is kinda a spill over from the helmet law thread. I see 50 reasons to wear gear but can only get 1 reason not to. I don't understand.

I am not sure. I consider myself a squid because I sometimes instead of my leather jacket I wear a textile jacket (but I always wear a jacket). Sometimes instead of my A* supertechs I wear my Icon street boots or gasp my New Balance shoes (depends on what kind of riding I am doing but that is not an excuse). I always wear my gauntlet gloves and my helmet. I also wear jeans and although I would like to purchase some touring pants from BMWs catalog I haven't done so yet. So in essence compared to the guy with full leathers on I'm a squid. Of course next to the guy with shorts and a t-shirt on I am like a turtle in a shell.

I am not going to knock gear.... depending on the speeds involved mesh works well. I am aiming for the peeps who wear shorts, t-shirts and no lids.

I have heard that too. Buy decent gear and there is no restriction and as far as heat goes I am no hotter now with leathers than I was with half helmet, t-shirt and jeans. In fact I am better now cause I am not sunburned and dehydrated when I get home.

Could also be a cultural thing (typical ole skool harley owners) or a peer pressure thing (certain groups that dress the same way because of affiliations to clubs, organizations, or friends, etc).

I am guilty of shorts and t-shirt sometimes around town. I'm taking to store or gym. Always wear the lid though.

so in your case it would be a time inconvenience? I can understand that. I does take a couple of extra minutes to get suited up.

I hardly ever ride without my gear (helmet, jacket, gloves). The only time I have get have gotten on the bike without my gear is if I worked late the night and caged it to work that day and want to get a quick fix of riding the bike around the block.

I'm sure there has been an occasion or two when I have ran to the corner store for something small with only a helmet on, but the store is located in my neighborhood.

sometimes I don't ride cause I am in a hurry to take the extra time donning gear, just faster to jump in the truck.

I've done that on many occasions. Especially if I am running late for work.

lately I have been straying from my full leather motto. I have riding to college and wear everything but my leather pants. I am not too worried though cause college is 3/4 mile away and speed limit is 30mph the whole way there, so if I do go down the jeans should hold up at such low speeds.
