bike problem

haven't ridden my bike in maybe 3 or 4 weeks, and when i tried taking it on a short ride, it died when I gave it any gas. I think the gas may be old, and I've just changed the air filter because I read that could cause problems, but any other suggestions of what I can try would be greatly appreciated (that don't involve taking it to a mechanic, i'm out of money right now but I will be heading to Sunny's right away when I am able).

actually gas can go bad in 2 weeks. new ethanol is bad. my wifes old ninja 250 sat for months while she was pregnant. after she had the baby I prepped the bike and it ran fine. went got some fresh gas and the bike sat for 2 weeks and then wouldn't run. Had to dump the old gas and go through the carbs to clean them out. Ran fine after that.

delay in bike is because I still haven't it professionally looked at since my wreck, so i'd just try riding it for a little every other week so it wouldn't sit. bike probably has had the same gas in it for a month, so i guess I'll start looking at that.

See if you can keep the choke on and rev the bike up w/o moving, no load. if it stumbles if very well might be the gas. Pretty easy to drain... If you did the air filter you should be able to find the pepcock or hose and drain into a container.

Never store a bike in our climate with less than 3/4 tank, especially with the crappy fuel we have.

If you have a couple bucks, pick up a can of Seafoam, and dump about half into the tank, with a gallon or two of gas. Start the bike, let run for a while, then shut it off and let it sit for a day. Then start, go fill up and ride and see if it clears up. May just have some junk in it.

Where is Seafoam available? Would an autoparts store have it?

Yep, just about any of them.. HiLo, Autozone, NAPA... red/white metal can, usually around the octane booster and fuel treatment

And if you plan to store for more than a month, put some Sta-bil in the fuel.
