WSB: Xaus to ride new BMW Superbike?

Quote:
BMW seek WSB ace to pilot new factory racer
THE RUMOURS are really chomping along with this one - but it seems very likely that Ruben Xaus will be the man charged with riding the BMW S1000 RR in next year's World Superbike Championship.

According to Spanish sources, Xaus is still in talks with the factory sorting out the final stages of the deal. Although he has been contesting a Ducati this year, it's thought that Xaus has now replaced Suzuki man Max Neukirchner as the main rider on the bike in 2009.

It could be a really good move, if the rumours turn out to be true. Xaus was runner-up in WSB in 2003, ridden in MotoGP, raced in WSB 138 times and won 10 races.
what do you think about that??
He can race, no doubt about that but surely that bike is going to need some development work

That bike will have to be very strong, we know Xaus likes to crash lol. And he is one of my fav riders. I think he wanted the Duc factory but maybe he is not getting it cause Max Biaggi is after it who knows. At some point they said Corser was riding the BMW as well.

Corser would have been my choice

I'd still like to see Xaus back in World SuperSport 600's at some point.
He dwarfed them back then and ran up front, imagine now

remember, they have to sell some of those first, so put your name in the list.

They don't have to sell them first... I believe they only have to produce 1000 during the calendar year inwhich they are racing to meet homoglation (sp) rules.

Ruben is my favorite rider - he's freakin intense as shyt and a giant to boot - definite proof that a big guy can move. I think he talks to a few teams every year - last year rumors were swirling about him talking to RTK to move into JTs spot.

I dunno, I'd much rather see him than Biaggi move into Bayliss' spot. Don't forget that Troy Corser is pretty much slated to leave Yamaha, which will leave an empty seat there - so who would be Haga's new teammate?

Rumors

You are correct Bud
For 2008 and 2009, all manufacturers, regardless of total production numbers, must now produce a minimum of 1000 bikes to acquire homologation. From 2010 onwards, the minimum production number will be increased to 3000 bikes. In the past, smaller manufacturers were allowed to build as few as 150 bikes to meet the homologation requirements. Manufacturers took advantage of this by producing 'homologation specials'--highly tuned versions of their road bikes with performance parts designed especially for racing
