Question Question about buying a bike

I may be picking up a bike tomorrow, but theres a small catch. The seller doesn't have the title nor is it in his name. All he has is a bill of sale from the original owner of the bike and also the original owner is still financing the bike. Now to the ?'s

Will a bill of sale be all I need? (plus original owner and sellers informations; dl#, addy, etc)

What is the best way to check if the bike isn't stolen or that I'm not getting scammed.

How would I be able to get insurance on the bike if the title isn't under my name?

You can get insurance even if the title is not under you name. (financed bikes etc)

There are just too many what if's on that bike. you are pretty much at the first and second owner's mercy when it comes to payment and repossession.

everyone has already given you excellent advice...
now, all you have to do is take it.
you don't want to be paying for someone else's bike!

Do not buy a motorcycle from anyone other than the person whose name it is in.

IF you are buying it from the original owner and IF there is a lien on it, get it in writing that the money you're giving the owner is being used to PAY OFF the lien and the the title is to be given to you.

Have that agreement notarized, you can do that at almost any bank.

In the case of this particular bike, walk away.

Never, ever, become emotionally invested in a vehicle during the purchase process.

Better yet - go with the owner to the lienholder company and watch them pay off the loan so you KNOW it has been done.

If that's true (I dunno), it still comes down to "why bother". Just seems like another thing to be concerned with, when all you have to do is buy another bike, direct from the Owner, with Title in hand.
