900RR engine knocking??????

hi guys, i have a cbr 900rr. it has a full d&d exhaust, k&n filter. not sure if its beenjetted or not.

well my problem is, i believe i have engine knock. when i cold start it. you can hear it knock. when it heats up. you can really hear it knock. you can hear it knock all through the rpm.

when idling, yo cant hear it as much but you can still hear it. there also a noticable power loss from time to time.

the bike doesnt smoke. and it kinda hard to get the bike to fly through the rpms when riding. but it rides fine.

i took it to a m/c shop off jones, and one of the guys said its engine related.(internal) basically a 1200 dollar job..ouch

i check the oil. and its full but its also really clear. looks thin.

does anyone have any suggestion.... if the engine needs rebuild anyone willing to do it for me or help. im willing to pay. just hate to pay 1200 bucks and wait almost a month to get back to riding. thanks

change the oil first to the proper viscosity. it may have the wrong oil in it causing low oil pressure and the knocking. if the new oil doesn't fix it then, you're probably going to need a rebuild.

If you need a motor I can get you a complete running great motor for around $800 - 1000 delivered to you. Just gotta know the serial # from the motor to see which one you have.

Sweet deal there, and Keith is a stand-up guy that I'll be more than happy to vouch for.

If the knock remains, eliminate one spark plug at a time then restart the bike if you aren't comfortable with pulling the plugs as it runs. the knock will lighten or go away when you hit the cylinder that is causing it(if it were a rod.) You can check spark plugs etc; on high-compression engines I have seen the threaded shield come apart and actually cause the spark plug to jump as it fired.

If the knock is one per revolution, likely in the bottom end. If it is half speed, likely to be in the camshafts or valves. If the pcm isn't programmed well and a valve was severely burnt on the exhaust side it could make such a noise.
