NO, really you outta take the class 1st. people fail the class w/ bikes at home. now that would suck.

They got loaner bikes for you at the class. So you don't need one to take it. Plus it knocks your insurance down a little.

And Racer X is right. You'll be so caught up in blowing your money on "fun" stuff, that the class may not happen. I took MSF over a year before having enough money for my first bike. And I still dropped the out of that old F2. =P

Oh, I should try and stay on topic. Haha.

I think craigslist or maybe cycletrader would be easier than an auction. It's easy to want to "win" the bike and end up paying more than it's worth. Do some research on craigslist first and come up with a list of bikes and average prices. If the auctions start going north of those prices, just suck it up and let it go.

A lot of those auctions are "as is" also I believe. I'm not sure how well you get to inspect the items before buying. Maybe someone who has more experience can shed some light on that issue.

I think all the instructors are certified together. The best is the one closest.

Not all bikes at auctions are bad, but all bad bikes go to auction. If you do your hw, you can find a deal, but if you dont know what to look for your going to have a head ache. 03 F.I. bikes are cheap to buy parts for, ebay, craigslist etc... and if you are mechanical savy, you can do most of the work yourself, just read up on it.
