Seriously people, at the track parade lap I would get left behind on the straights.

On the corners I had to keep grabbing the brakes so that I did't run into the 600SS bikes in front of me.
Kept thinking WTF are they slowing down?

To summarize this thread:

Can you start on a 600? Yes, some people have done it.
Should you do it? No, probably not for a number of valid reasons.

Figure the new guy could use the info to help in regards to who he's listening too.

It'd be interesting to see age, years etc from who's recommending what. :-)
Kind of a resume of sorts.

im 33... and i feel like he should pick based on how comfortable he is with riding in general... not that even that would make much difference. as far as bike size...but like everything else the more he rides the better he will get whether on a 600 or a 250....ride within your means...best advice no matter what size bike you get....

He stated... "But I have no experience with motorcycles whatsoever other than taking MSF course. I did well on both the skills and written test. "

So precisely, what basis or point of reference does he have to gone on?
(Particularly that makes you feel 'safe' in recommending a 600sb?)

i recently fell off my bmw while coming to a stop sign in my neighborhood, please dont ban me from this sight because I wasnt wearing ne gear (except that baseball hat turned backwards), there i am askin for a free pass on anything stupid I am about to say.

First, ask yourself where you rate your driving skills in a cage! Are you a good dirver, had any accidents or close calls? If so, then a bike is not for you. If you are a bad driver and always have road rage, imagine the power and acceleration between your legs being magnified. You mst always pay attention to others around you, looking well ahead of the car in front of you. You need to know when to slow down before the car in fornt of you decides to slam on his or her brakes. Not b/c u can't stop quicker, but are you skilled enough to pull off the OH T stop and actually stop? Or maybe the JackA$$ behind you wasn't paying attention, You can not afford a fender bender on a bike.

Only you know yourself. If you think you are ready for a 600 go for it. But never ride above and beyond your skill level no matter what kind of bike you are on.

No matter what bike you get, you will eventually out grow it and get a bigger bike.

Now, IMO, get the gixxer dude. No question!!!!!!!!!!
