I have separate medical insurance. I don't see the logic behind getting a CAR insurance company insure my HEALTH.

$9 a month.. (w/ MSF discount)

Thats right folks! Lets see somebody's 600cc monthly liability rate close to my age.
liability only is not a good indicator and really doesn't mean much. i bet liability for you on a 600cc would not be much more than 9 bucks a month..

True. I was thinking of something else on my auto coverage. My bad. So, what are your liability limits then?

Texas state required. If I run into somebody my company pays them for damages/medical.

I know liability ins. is required in Texas. That's not my question. I'm asking what your policy's monetary limits are. Are you carrying only the minimum as required by the State - i.e. $25k per pers, $50k per accident, and $25k for prop? Or, did you increase your coverage limits?

Man, I don't want to this thread up w/ ins. , b/c that's not nearly as interesting as people calling others out on the track, but what do you mean by "my company pays them"?

I know you guys say a 250 can keep up in the twisties, and this may be true, right up untill a straight away.

Notice my thread was pre-emted with "wrist and self control." Both of these can be learned easily on something that is going to "bite back." How will you know not to ram it if you are always on a 250 at WOT?
This entire thread amuses me. A guy who has never ridden anything other than MSF asks for an honest opinion on a first bike, and we get everything from 250's are gay to might as well get a 600 so you can keep up.

A beginner has no business on a SS600 or larger. They have no skill set or point of reference to work from. Now, someone with some dirt bike experience, maybe, and thats a big maybe.

And ripping it on the straights to slow down for the next curve proves nothing more than you know how to twist the throttle.

And even funnier to see all the noobie riders, most of whom have already crashed their 600, offereing advice on a starter bike.

The original poster shows he has some common sense... first to take the MSF, second to ask what bike he should get for his FIRST bike. Hopefully he shows as much sense and is able to wade thru all the BS in this overly long thread.

Buy a 500 Ninja. Ride that around. Then you want to upgrade (whatever that is) buy an SS bike, but keep the 500. That is what I did.
You'll learn quick that SS bike really suck in traffic, they run hot, they get bad gas milage, and there is no place to put stuff.
My 500 has a luggage rack, get's 50+ MPG, and is really pretty quick. Maintenance and insurance are low and it can ride two up.
On the weekends, if I want to go play on the back roads, I have a gixxer that I go play on.

Good stuff. i wish they'd redesign the 500's look and i'd be over it for commuting vs the sv650. I just really don't want my 2nd bike to be something I personally don't find appealing (NOT that it isn't in its own unique way)...

Love ex500 though, great practical bike with tons of potential to unlock.... AND CHEAP!
