GSX-R 600 or Ninja 250r?

I need to resist temptation and stick with a small novice bike like the 250. But those seem to never be available, and it costs over 4 g's out the door brand new. Yesterday on craigslist, I saw a good-looking 06 GSX-R 600 that has never been dropped or raced for sale at $3000. It'd be nice to get that Suzuki.
But I have no experience with motorcycles whatsoever other than taking MSF course. I did well on both the skills and written test.

What do you guys think?

you're not going to get a 06 gsx-r 600 for 3000.

Go for the 250, you'll learn a lot.

Where'd you see the gsx-r? That's way cheap, probably a scam.

Here's a ninja on craigs that seems decent http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/722245492.html

Bad color scheme anyway.

I'm thinking the gixxer is an older one since it's for $3k, but you have to check w/the insurance too...some places will bend you over for getting an SS...if they will even insure you since you don't have any experience riding....I'll sell you my 250 for $3500

Nah, if you wanna just learn you can pick up a used 250 real cheap and then sell it for near what you paid...if you wanna keep it, get a new one. Just be patient and shop around

yep your not going to find a minty gxsr for that price.

250 if your serious about learning

600 if you just want to pose

the gsxr is likely a scam @ that price, but I would still suggest saving up the money and going with a 600 over a 250. btw, getting a 600 instead of a 250 does not mean you aren't serious about learning how to ride. if that's what you want go for it.

im thinkin gsxr is a scam too! If ur wanting to save more gas then anything get the 250. but i learned just fine on my 600 as a first bike. Not meaning that in a hot head way, that i know everything, cuz i have a long way to go. Just sayin... id be highly unsatisfied with a 250...unless, i ONLY wanted it for gas purposes... just my opinion.

but if u decide a 600...watch out for scams...anything way to good to be true prob is!..... But a good deal, is hard to find, but not impossible by anymeans!

Get a 600 and work on some wrist control. You will be bored with the 250 after a coupel times riding. If you can be adult about self control there is nothing wrong with a 600 for a first bike.

Here's my take ... no mater how controlled you think you can be ... when you're a noob you don't have a lot of experience and muscle memory, so when that day comes when you get caught unawares and you have to stomp on those brakes, or when you make that noob mistake of getting on the gas just a little too much because you've stalled at a stop light and want to get away fast so no one laughs at you ... you'll wish you had a more forgiving bike.

so what if you only own the 250 for 4-6 months ... you'll make your money back selling it and would have probably learned a lot in the mean time.
