Why the 2008 Ninja 250r is constantly unavailable?

I have to admit the new Ninja 250 is an impressive bike, so I'm not surprised people eat it up like savages. Why is it that these models seems to never be available though? I'm not well-versed in economic studies, so I'm just curious as to why Kawasaki does not produce more 250's than they currently do now with the knowledge that their product is such a hot product constantly being sold out? I know of people waiting months just to snag one, even with their names on the waiting list.

I'm just curious is all, not critical of Kawasaki. Their profit margin would skyrocket every time they distribute new shipments, so why not do it?

And, speaking of, anyone heard any recent news of the other Big Four coming out with their own 250 bad boys? It should be apparent to them by now what their next step should be...

yes, they do make money on 250's, but not what you think. they only have enough resources to build X number of bikes, and they make more money on bigger models.

a major reason they even sell 250's is to up the "starter market" hoping you will come back to them for a bigger bike in a few months (as many 250 owners do)

if some of the others came out with 250's i would not put it past kawi to make a 125, and say "those 250's are too much for beginners." lol. actually they allready made a 125 cruiser, the eliminator.

plus..with all these people lined up to buy them, they arent worried about losing sales. i doubt the msrp is going to go down ummm, ever.

that isnt all though...the initial launch of the 250's was delayed over a couple issues. something about the taillights. i know that is true because i found a half full carton of taillight bulbs in a 250 crate. they basicly had stop the line, change things up, go back and do recalls on all the ones built. etc...there was another recall too i believe so that slowed things down also.

Hey does anyone know the status of Kawasaki's shipments to Houston right now? I found it hard to believe that every single legit dealer is sold out, but apparently that is the case.

I've been trying to find one for a while, not planning to buy for another month or so and didn't think it would be so hard to find one. I did get a chance to check out a few built over at AJ Foyt kawasaki the other day, on 45 and ummm... w. mt houston I think. Look really cool wouldn't mind getting one. But anyways they called me at 3 o clock sayin they got three in and by 6 or so I think all of them were sold. Ask to get on their call list, and they will hold it for you if you are willing to put down a 500$ deposit over the phone, otherwise it's first come first serve I believe. But call every dealer around and you quickly get the idea that if you aren't there when it arrives you probably wont get one.

The EX250 is still the #1 selling bike for Kawi. This year it's just redesigned. Keep looking (call around), someone has one. Just be patient.

it's hard to know what kinda shape an already cheap bike will be in after being abused by other novices. that's the way I look at it, plus I don't have any real intention of moving up.

you're gonna have a hard time finding a 250cc anything right now. with gas prices going up small cc bikes and scooters are selling out all over the country.

example: http://austin.craigslist.org/mcy/758524591.html

$2800 for a 4 year old naked 250 with 13k miles, and i bet they get close to that for it.
