dragon bites again

this was posted on another board:

riders comments - LOL

Facts are:

-Body position was not ideal but by no means horrible
-I was only too hot for the turn because my upper body wasn't off the bike enough.
-I wasn't riding the bike or the tires to their limits by any stretch of the imagination
-I had more lean angle then I needed for the turn causing me to scrape hard parts.
-Had I gone deeper into the turn before dropping in I would not have crashed so yes my line was wrong but I turned in too early, not too late as indicated by the all knowing, motorcycle master above.
-I didn't take anyone else out with me even though I could have but hey I "could have" not crashed but no one is talking about that.

he wasn't a very smooth rider. looks like he was being very overly aggressive in his transitions into and out of corners. almost like he was bored and had to over exaggerate his movements.

if you can't stay in you lane then you are going too fast. there were a few instances where he crossed over the yellow stripes into the oncoming lane

I've been to the dragon twice in the last three years. I've gone wide on that rode once, which is saying alot. It's a very demanding road. If you start trying to push your limits you will go wide or crash, if you not EXTREMELY careful. The best guy in the group I was in, who had been riding for 18 years, scraped a peg for the first time in his life.
Speed is always a factor in any kind of drama out there, but no one is going to travel over 18 hours one way to ride a road and not push a little.

And by the way, I went in late may both time and to police were not that bad either time. No one got tickets. I got pulled over once, but we weren't even on the dragon.

I was thinking the same thing. Most groups I usually ride makes it a rule to not cross the yellow. This relates to entering or leaving a turn. If you are crossing the yellow, you are riding too fast for your skill level on the street and need to take it to the track. It also looks like he had quite a few instances where the whole series of turns was a bit off becasue he was off in the first turn of the series.

I have had a few rides in the Hill Country that I just seem to be off and am not being smooth or where I might cross the line just a bit on exit. I will usually just stop for few minutes and get my head on straight. If it doesn't get better, then I just take it easy until whatever is mentally disctracting me is gone.

All in all, good of him to post as I am sure he is getting arm chair quaterbacked (I guess I just did that also) by everyone. Glad he was able to get back on it.

Dang, I'm sure glad to see that I was not the only one that saw how erratic this guy's lines were, and how choppy he was with the throttle. His comments were sure a big attempt at trying not to take any blame!

Man, why do folks feel like riding like this on the street is such a good thing?

Well, at the track, it would have been pretty appropriate for where the power is with the SV. Check out this vid: , the engine is up higher in the rev range because that's where the bawls stay at

Engine braking, acceleration, and the most power comes (from most bikes) from the middle of the range to just under the red line.
