my new race plastics

Since I plan on upgrading my suspension to Ohlins and reworking the front forks, I'm trying to save a few bucks here and there. Just bought some used Airtech Race Plastics of ebay for $193. Anyone have any comments on this brand? I think with some paint they should be good to go. He is also including some quarter turn fasteners.

You got those for a good price. Don't get me wrong about what I'm going to post here, but take it in to perspective for what you've paid.

Airtech, when it hits the ground, has a terrible tendency to shatter. Worse than any other brand I've seen. When it hits the ground, it usually breaks up to the point that you won't be able to repair them very well. They use a really hard curing resin, and it tends to become brittle. You should treat them very carefully.

Now, after all that said, for $193, you got yourself some decent racing style bodywork that will get you on the track, and if you crash, you won't be replacing some really expensive stock bodywork That's what I mean about perspective.

There are some things you can do to make your bodywork more "crash proof" so that if it does hit the ground, it won't break up so bad. Hit me up if you want some more information on it- before you mount it and send it to Tony.

Very true about Airtech. While fortunately I've never been labeled as a crasher, I've never tested this bodywork. However, with just handling it with bike maintenance and what not I could see Airtech stuff shattering due to the brittleness of the finished product. It is not flexible at all really, it bends some but you can here the fibers cracking when you get to a certain point.

with the posts above, I vote for rattle can. No sense in painting it nice if it won't hold up.

With some prep work, Krylon Fusion works pretty good of all the cans. Unless you find an auto paint store that will inject some better paint into an aerosol can.

Actually, some of the higher end paints (like Tony uses), along with the clear coat and flex agent, will make the bodywork a bit more durable. As I mentioned too, there are some tricks of the track that help preserve bodywork a bit in a crash.

While I can agree about the rattle can and saving some money, it may actually be a better idea to have Tony paint it up and help make the bodywork more durable
