Great gear for Houston summer

Just looking for quality recommended brands or models for gloves and jackets. With the Houston desert, I'd like to have a good ventilation system without compromising protection value. Any thoughts?

Right now, I'm highly considering an Icon Pursuit Perforated Leather Jacket, and, I have no idea which glove I should be eyeing. Is it just me, or does it seem like Paul on NewEnough.com comments every good summer gloves to have minimal protection from abrasion? Haha.. if this is the case, I'm gonna have some sweaty palms for the season..

Sweaty palms beat out palms in my book.

I don't particularly care for Icon products, but that doesn't mean anything. I would look into A*s perforated jackets. Definitely stay in leather.

so how does $ play into the equation? my vented jacket was $350+ & kevlar

you can get joe rocket for $100 and it's plastic

1 will burn off 1 won't, guess which one?

and ICON = junk IMO.

You are very wise

Oh, he did specify a leather jacket in his post, so let's hope he's headed that direction.

you think so? mann but the icon pursuit jacket looks so flyyyy.... ahah... my price range isn't too stiff bc i'd like to invest in my protection, you know? under $400 would be great. which is why the icon jacket looked so appealing since it was leather going for $180 at the discount price.

Go by Motorcycles Unlimited and talk to Patrick about gear.

FT XTi Leather Jacket. Fully perforated and has great shoulder and elbow protection.

Do you only recommend leather jackets from these companies or are their textiles and meshes good too?

I would highly recommend wearing leather, even for street use. Always dress for the crash, and NOT the ride! Just keep in mind that most track wrecks happen at street speeds, in the corners. Very few wrecks happen on the straights. 99% of the racers walk away unscathed (also keep in mind the safety aspect of a track for this), but leather will always be your best bet. Wear even a perforated jacket will help to keep you cool, but don't forget that mesh and perforation also help to dehydrate you.
One of my favorite tricks in the summer is to put a couple of zip lock bags full of ice in the side and chest pockets, but don't close the bags. As the ice melts, it will have an immense cooling effect, called evaporative cooling. The best part is, as it melts, the water will run down your body providing even more of a cooling effect

But, leather will always be safer

I've had a couple spills - one on the road (light hit) and the other juuust off-road (higher-speed) where I hit fairly hard - and my TourMaster mesh jacket with the pads did very well. - no rips or cuts or bruises, for that matter. How well that would work at a high-speed slide on concrete, I don't know, but it took care of me. Is it the coolest-high-style-looking thing? Probably not... but I can put the thermal or the waterproof liner in there, and the summer days mesh-only definitely keeps me cooler.

I can't say I'm thrilled yet with the pants - they're a little hot - they don't breathe. But I can say they completely protected my legs in my crash-and-roll and didn't get damaged.

My Icon leather/mesh gloves worked well - no damage in my fall - fairly cool, but have skid pads built in.

Probably all my gear would be wrong for the track, but work pretty well for me. I was also looking for gear that would adapt to several conditions...
