I bought a Domain Decay helmet for my nephew. It retails for $390. The vents blew off on the first ride! I'll never buy one of their helmets again.

Overall, they are not worth the money. I had an ICON mainframe helmet and all the plastic venting on the back just came off, the trim around the bottom of the helmet came loose, the chin curtain tore apart and I went through 3 sets of baseplates.

ICON helmet = .

I have an icon superduty jacket that I scored on the cheap from ebay. The zipper pull broke off in my hand, the button snap on the collar tore out of the fabric and the leathers has broken/stretched out a whole bunch on the sleeves.

Read the entire thread people have listed the reasons. I had gloves from them that just fell apart after a week or so of riding. I've know a few people with Icon helmets and they would fall apart as previously mentioned.

^^When I bought the jacket it was new. I had to take the elbow armor out so my arms could fit in the sleeves. Wore it without the elbow pads for a couple months until the leather broke in enough to get my arms through the sleevs with the armor in place. Maybe another 6 or 7 months after I put the pads in, the sleeves had continued to break in. Now the leather is loose enough that the elbow pads could roll out from their position around my elbow in a crash.

Their jackets are built with fashion in mind, protection is secondary. They figure if they work up a good design, that building it with leather, waxed cotton and CE armor will account for the protection. Which is just not the case.

That's pretty much the answer you will get from any rider that has seen people go down in icon. i would NEVER EVER buy their helmets. now their jacket maybe but it would depend on the jacket and only if i got it really really cheap.

IMO you get what you pay for. and I pay for what I see work crash after crash.

Thats why only Shoei or Arai touch my head.

No need for anyone to be defensive or to take offense to our negative comments about ICON. I fell into the trap when they first came out. I've had 2 of their helmets, 1 jacket and a pair of gloves. Speaking from experience, their product's quailty just does not justify the price. If they were positioned as discount gear, then it would be a different story.
I just wanted to pass on the info I have learned by experience.

Is that a Joe Rocket?

JR is not the best gear you can get, but it is decent.
Most folks in the know would probably rank it above ICON, but not by much.
At least JR tends to be priced a little better.

What about Tourmaster / Cortech? I've got one of their jackets, and the riding pants that go with them. ( both textile ) Are these any good?

Tourmaster have been around for decades. They make a very good product. Their version of the Aerostitch suit is also very good. Just as with most manufacturers, they all have low end stuff and high end goods. Just be sure to spend the dough on good gear. Just because it looks like a great deal, it doesn't mean that it will protect you adequately in a fall.

older icon stuff was made well. case in point; I bought my wife some kitty chaps and jacket. nice thick leather and has held up well over the years. broused some new kitty gear and the "leather" felt like cheap paper. totally not even close to the stuff bought 3 years ago. same with my ti max gloves... I got them after they discontinued the design and all the new stuff is cheap and thin.
