i sit and biake like a in traffic. i live on fry road in katy and i work at 290 and beltway. so i usually take west little york all the way home. i have a camel pack in my back pack to keep me hydrated a 12 mile trip takes me 45 mins to get home. i might considering lane splitting now.

Depends on how rushed I am, sit and wait usually unless I got to pee or something.

My ethics are not coupled with legality though there is a strong correlation.

When traffic is below 5 mph and it looks like it will stay that way for a long while I will do one or the other. The answer depends on how clean the emergency lane is and how comfortable I am there.

I don't live in Houston, but I split lanes like there's no tomorrow. If it's hot, I won't even think about stopping.

The left shoulder here in Beaumont is usually pretty clean, so I'll hit that if I can. Usually a little more space.

Just be careful. Each county can be different, but in the state of texas there is no law that prohibits lane splitting. But there's also no law saying it's ok. So, if you hit someone, or kill someone, from my understanding it's auto your fault.

There may be a law in Houston where they can ticket for it. dunno.

Cops wanna chime in? I'm going from what my dad told me (retired 2 years. Captain for baytown pd.) So there may be something new.

Its considering failure to maintain lane, or can be a ticket for reckless driving....

I don't see how you can get around the law... Not to say I wouldn't . Dealing with 1960 is hard, but if I was on highway, no side streets to give suprises...yeah I'd be splitting.

And when they complain we should sit... try baking in full leather! Yeah its part of the package, but we deal with more difficult visibility, dangers, overheating, and some of us air cooled bikes....

ie... according to Texas LAW its a violation, just like everyone in Houston speeds and nothing is done, since its just part of it.... so riding emergency? Pretty scary, lots of metal shards etc and people that can be fools...and tickets.... lane splitting at 5mph cruising through, not such a big deal to me. Do it if your sitting baking. Just be prepared to get a ticket IF an office HAPPENS to be watching. Otherwise, they can honk all they want, don't bake!

I sit and bake like a chicken. Not worth risking some hot head side swipeing me or running me over 'cause they get mad I'm lane splitting. And I don't want a ticket.

enjoy baking as we pass you up ....
just kidding. btw, its not as scary as you think. They CAN'T RUN you over when splitting because 99% of the time you are past them by the time they see you.... and if they squeez you, you are going 5 mph or so anyway, and just stop. No biggie. I've done it and its not so crazy. PLUS how many times do patrol cars in literal stopped traffic through their lights on to pull someone over.... umm not that I've seen, they aren't normally sitting in traffic like that, and if they are in 4-5 lanes of congested traffic, i doubt they could get to you without getting to emergency lane, and thats a lot of work!
