I saw at least 2 cars trying to split with the emergecy lane on sunday due to a wreck. I would think the chances of getting a ticket would be higher when a cop is riding in the emergecy lane, vs you splitting between cars (less noticeable). I also saw a cruiser hit the emergency lane. It has a lot of debris to get a flat... :/:

What do you do, you hooligans you?
i split the lane, cut in front ride the shoulder im not waiting around in the heat burning my clutch up

I split lanes whenever the traffic is parked or moving too slow. I try to avoid splitting between big rigs, buses, and I'm careful around anything with a large blind spot. I'm not a fan of sitting in stop and go traffic in the Houston heat with my bike overheating. I moved here from Cali where splittin is legal. D@mn I miss being able to split lanes in peace without looking over my shoulder for the po-po.

If i'm a few cars from the front I'll split and get to the front, I split a long line of traffic earlier today but thats only because there was an accident on the Beltway and it seems everyone jumped off to the feeder.

Thats a tricky question as to whethor its legal to lane split or not.. I think the thing is : Its not legal however its also* Not* illegal...
I think its up to the police officers discretion...
Some of the LEO's on the board can chime in at this time....hehehehehe

I'm surely not going to sit and bake in 2mph traffic, i'll hit up the emergency lane, or start lane splitting....just keep an eye out for the LEO's.

And if I am stopped. "I'm glad you stopped. Now can you help me? Something is wrong with my bike. What's that? It's too hot to even have this conversation out here huh ? Now get back into your cage and blast your A/C, and go see what the the hold up is farther up"

I only ride in the shoulder if it's to get to an exit/right-hand turn that's not far ahead.

I haven't lane split yet. All of my tickets have finally fallen off my record, nothing in the last three years now , and I'm paranoid of motorcycle-hating LEOs.

Last time we got into a traffic jam, we (4 cool bikes, not metrics) decided to hit the shoulder, we had an old triumph in the group rising in temp, so we just putted along at 5 mph or so. when we got to the accident we merged back in, only to find some folks kinda mad at us.
but hey, were bikers, thats how we roll, what the fck do we care

Awhile back I was riding with a guy from work. It was Spring Break. There was a wreck on 45 and traffic was not moving. We were getting hot, so we hit the cowboy lane on the right to get to the exit. Everyone was acting like fools on the highway and it seemed a lot safer. We were going about 5mph and about 70 yds from the exit. Out of nowhere a car decided he wanted in that lane also. He cut the wheels and plowed my buddy. He actually spun his wheels when he hit the gas. My buddy was on a brand new R6. He took it in the left leg. He was sore but fine. The front bumper of the car was hanging off and dragging the ground. The cop wrote him the ticket for riding in that lane. The cager said the bike ran into him. It was apparent the bike was not running side ways down the road, but the cop didnt care. The car admitted he was going to do the same thing we were. The cop said he hated bikers.

I never done either, but always want to. I ride I-10 in the HOV lane and sometimes it can be at a stand still. I will do it one day, but not until I buy those gloves with the metal on them. And if they block me and almost hit me, I will drag my gloves in their paint. I don't play when it comes to my life or harming my body. I wouldn't do it if someone block me, cause I would go the other way around.

I can't count how many people were a$$ hole to me on the hwy.

#1 Reason YOU SHOULD? Because it is good for the Environment
A moving vehicle is more energy efficient than a stopped vehicle plus the commute time is reduced further reducing energy use

You are a lot more likely to get a ticket for riding on the shoulder/emergency lane than if you are splitting lanes. If traffic is stopped, most cops won't mess with you for splitting lanes.

+1 I'll do it all. Heck I have even popped little power wheelies while lane splitting.
