The pilot, Wayne Kirby, is my stepdad's brother in law.(married to my step aunt). What REALLY sucks about the whole thing is, Wayne's wife Sally(my step aunt) has been battling cancer for almost 10yrs and Wayne was there for her everyday of her battle. Now he is gone and she is NOT in good shape at all. She is bed ridden but will be at the Memorial service and will be speaking. Its gonna be very sad......

The sons of the patient that died will be speaking at the memorial on behalf of the crew as well as the parents of the 2yr old drowning kid they saved a few hours before the crash.

This was a FUKKED up ordeal.......I guess everything happens for a reason though.

Whats really fck'd up is, my step dad had rode his Harley up to Bryan that morning so him and Wayne could go for a ride(Wayne also rides a hog). Well when my step dad got there, him and Wayne took Wayne's grand kids to a local park to play and hang out for a while before they went on the ride. Once Wayne, my step dad and the kids got back to the house and they were getting the bikes ready to go, Wayne got called out to work and had to immediately leave. Thats when he took the call for the 2yr old near drowning victim they saved. Lastly, there was a patient at a local Hospital that needed to be life flighted to Hermann memorial. The Hermann choppers declined the flight for some reason or another, so PHI dispatched Wayne and his crew to fly the patient. Once they picked him up and headed to Hermann, they crashed about 5 mins into the flight. They crashed into a heavily wooded area and it took 6hrs to find the wreckage so even if they had survived the crash, they wouldn't have gotten help for 6 hrs.....

I want to know WTF happened to that chopper.....

Wayne was a very special individual, he has flown rescue missions for over 30 yrs, he did several years worth of VOLUNTEER work in Africa(not paid) flying supplies, medicine etc to them. He also flew in Antarctica for rescue. I can't convey the sadness and concern I have for his wife Sally.....I am at a total loss for words for her.....

yeah, sad story. phi hasn't flown since the crash. my part time job is collecting money for floral arrangements (galveston ems). trying to get the e.r. involved as well.

what's more strange is that herman was supposed to take that transfer, but was called back half way through the flight. then phi took the transfer. just to clarify, from what was told to utmb,it was a transfer, not a scene call at 2 a.m.

Jana Bishop, Stephanie Waters and Wayne Kirby will be missed by all. I had the chance to meet and work with them all and they will be missed greatly.
