Yamaha R6 riders, what's your realistic city MPG?

Hey all,

Whats your actual MPG on an R6, especially you 08 owners?

I've been bitten by some kind of R6 bug and it's hard to shake it off, so I'm starting to do research on the bike. I think I'm doomed to get one, but I'd really like to know the MPG I can expect. Only thing going to stop me from the R6 may be a green 08 Ninja 08 toofiddy because I like the look and love the MPG

I have only a short 8 mile commute to work, not much freeways and then errands and whatnot on the weekends only, probably mostly city again. What should I be expecting?

Thanks,

Not EXACTLY an R6 but close, I ride an 06 YZF600R and I get 42-45 mpg depending on how many fun runs I do down the FM roads during lunch breaks or in the evenings.

I have gotten 55mpg on a tank that I didn't get up to 9k rpm's on once for the duration of the tank.

Getting around 42 miles to the gallon on my 08 R6. Don't have too many mods on my bike yet. Love my new R6. Going to cut the cat off in the next few weeks so hopefully the mileage will get even better.

I need to get a smaller bike again... You guys are really making me hurt...

Sounds like well rounded numbers for mpg even with the tach at high rpms.

the new 250 is perfect for that short of a commute. I'd want the r6 if I was hitting 610 loop and the craziness there.... my ride on cypresswood is very pleasant and relaxing.

Gas mileage that the r6 is getting seems to be just fine... plus you have ample power to get out of the way if you need to. Whats the mileage on the 250?

Thanks for all the responses and thanks for that link to the R6 thread too. I'm thinking 40-50mpg is probably realistic.

Anyone going to be R6ing over at Houston Motorsports SW on Saturday morning? A couple friends are going with the intent to get bikes, I'm half tempted to get the 08 R6 while I'm there, but a test ride would prolly be smarter first

I highly recommend Texas Yamaha in Webster. Think they are a site sponsor and they also sell R1's and R6's with some decent mods. Jeramy hooked me up.

Saturday morning around 9 I am going to be down there picking up my plate. It finally came in.

Got mine with Proton Flush mounts and Fender Eliminator, CustomLED tail light, Akrapovic carbon fiber slipon, smoked double bubble windscreen, frame sliders, carbon tank pad, swing arm spools.
