No kidding. I see it as paying taxes. I want my bike to look a certain way. If it's deemed unlawful, either change it or pay your tax.
You wanna haul through the forest, slow down or pay your tax.

The side of the road isn't a place to argue the ticket either but I think he wanted to get the officer on film to help plead his case. While I don't think he should have been filming with a handheld and driving especially on those roads, he won the case.
Quote:
On December 13 Blount County Judge Brewer ruled Not Guilty and in favor of Tail of the Dragon for charges of having a “television related” device (a video camera) within sight of the driver of a motor vehicle. Trooper Bryan Martin cited me on August 25 on this ridiculous charge which was what many considered blatant harassment in retaliation for our publishing photos of THP troopers crossing the double yellow on the web.

In court Trooper Martin sniveled that “Tail of the Dragon put the video of the traffic stop on YouTube”. We can only guess he hoped his whining would influence the judge to render a guilty verdict. Trooper Martin alone was responsible for the YouTube video as a result of his actions in citing me for such a silly offense. Why would he want to make Tail of the Dragon look like the bad guy in court?

Haven’t seen the video? Some 23,000 others have. See link above.

We would think that the THP would have higher priorities. Why waste their time and the resources of the local judicial system writing tickets that won’t hold water.

When I walked into court I got odd stares from the group of troopers. Guess these guys will be targeting me every time I hit the state line. Be warned ….. I carry numerous cameras that are running all the time and I will not hesitate to publish on YouTube again.

At least the legal system worked this time. We hear that the judges usually rule in favor of the troopers. This time the interpretation of the law fell in my favor. It also helped that I had a complete video recording of the entire incident verifying my testimony. We highly recommend that everyone carry video cameras to record such incidents not only on the Dragon but everywhere they drive.

It is and it is a shame that people without talent destroyed it by crashing cars, and bikes both on it. I have a video of my ride on it. just click my signature down below this....

I have driven a car through it in 2002 or 2003 before it became the squid fest that it now is. there were cops there then but they did not care if you sped. as long as you looked like you knew what you were doing. its a waste of a trip now.

cops dont give two about your choice of transportation. If you break the law you break the law.
I have gotten tickets in a 120k porsche and a 10k bike from the same cop. he was doing his job.

Come on, I've been riding for a long time, and when I was a kid, I thought the same thing. Funny how age and experience changes your outlook on things like this.

Just like with this dude's case, if you feel like you've been "wronged", fight it in court. I've never met a PO that was going to change his mind after making a decision to write someone for a violation- it's like killing the messenger; it does no good and is a waste of time.

Well, I wouldn't know, I don't get a bunch of tickets (or any in a long time knocking on wood) in order to need to have a lawyer to give me that kind of sage advice.

If you have a lawyer, you don't even have to go to the court and "lose wages". If people never broke the law, they wouldn't need to pay the officers to go to court.
