Buying a bike online

Alright,

I've been looking at a 2002 12r. She has around 5k miles on her, and from the pictures I've received, she looks like she's in really good condition.

The bike was originally in Lake Charles, which is like 30 mins from me. Problem now is, the guy selling says he's in the Air Force, and he just got relocated to Dyess Air Force Base, which is way northwest texas. Says he's getting shipped off to Afghanistan in 3 weeks.

He says he wants to use http://www.fivesafesteps.com/. Says he'll pay for shipping. I've never used a service like this, and right now it seems pretty fishy to me.

What do you guys think?

Think I'm gonna email him back and say I prefer to meet in person. Gonna wait a few though for responses.

Inspect, ride and pay in person...

He may be legit and this situation best for him, but you have your own interests in mind and he needs to respect that. Plus you should inspect it personally before accepting it out of good nature.

sounds like a scam. definatly a situation where you need to look out for scammers. your better off with a personal pickup, and if that is not possible, use paypal as said before. email him about paypal. i have found that scammers are pretty obvious when you email them, spelling mistakes, things that dont make sense, etc. they prey on people who just want to believe they are going to get what they want and get the deal they want. if they seem really incredibly insistant on using this other service, its 95% chance a scam. a real seller will care more about making their sale than who they use to transfer the funds. if they say things like "this is the only way" or things like that it is your tipoff. email the guy and ask about paypal and ask some other questions about the bike, post the response here, let us read it.

IF HE IS PAYING FOR SHIPPING IT'S A SCAM. he owns that "fake shipping webpage" and will make it look very real for you. this is in Inda or somewhere in Europe he's not anywhere near Texas. and the bike you are looking at is on some dudes myspace.

Don't buy its a scam, when I was selling my bike on cycletrader someone hacked into my acct changed my # and email and the price like 5 times so I decided to email the guy and he was offering me my bike with free shipping and he keep on saying that the bike was in good condition & to send him the $ and he would ship me the bike. I went down to the autotrader office and they said it happens all the time and they can't do anything about it.
