Daily Racing Practice

Well. I'm working on selling my cruiser and buying something track-ier. Until I do, and can get to a track day, I need to practice.

So.

I'm wondering if any of you have any recommendations for road track racing games. I have a 360 and a PC that can handle most games. What's the best motorcycle racing game out there?

+1. Much of track riding is body position, using your body to turn the bike and being able to really control the bike under braking and as you roll on the throttle. Can't learn that in a video game for a bike like you can in a car. It's just a different world.

The only things those games are good for is if you are lucky enought to ride any of those world-class tracks, you can use the game to learn the track. Other than that, it's useless.

Last time I checked TWS (Texas World Speedway) wasn't one of the tracks you could run on a game.

LOL. Thanks for the replies.

I was joking about using the games as practice, I guess it's hard to get that across in ASCII. My bad.

I'm interested in buying a game to play, I AM serious about that part. MotoGP it is. Would anyone recommend the PC or XBox 360 version over the other?

Plus, the $50 I spend on a game will save me $180 I would otherwise spend on the MSF class.

I prefer 360, to PC...but that is just me. Motogp 07 is a blast. You get the bike turned in, and gun it WFO.

Well if you ARE serious about doing trackdays, I'd say get yourself in shape first and read as much as you can about advanced riding, I've heard twist of the wrist is a good book. Get ahead of the game then you can physically practice your riding.

But what do I know.

I seriously doubt that games will help you any.

The only plus side towards real time riding that I’ve taken away from games, is probably learning different riders names and learning the European track layouts. You can probably take away the concept of running proper lines…….but experiencing this on a video game to experiencing it on the track is two different worlds my friend.

But if your looking for a good motorcycle racing game…….you can’t beat MotoGP 07 on Xbox 360.

If you pick it up and you have Xbox live, look me up. My gamertag is BloodstripeCPL.

I can help you with some decent old set-ups that have served me well through MotoGP 3 and ’07. I’m not one of the fastest on the game……I spend most of my riding efforst in real life. But I will say there are very very few people that can out run me on a couple of tracks. i.e. Sachesring(sp?)

But seriously, get your on the track ASAP…….that’s the only way you can get better my friend. There are very few things that get you ready for something like track riding…….and video games is not exactly the best place to look.

A good way to get ready for the track before you actually make it out there for your first one is get in shape mentally and physically.

Stretch and do a bunch of cardio. I usually do something a little more low impact then running, like swimming or even biking would be a good idea. A lot of racers cycle during most of their training. I’ve run the out of my knees in the military……so swimming or cycling is ideal for someone in my situation.

Read as much as you can on track riding. A lot of people like Keith Code’s “Twist of the Wrist” books. A lot of the material in his write ups are hard to mentally visualize when you haven’t been to the track yet. But his first few sections on “Survival Reactions” is something that both street and track riders can appreciate. I would recommend this to beginner track riders like myself. That section did a lot about the way I thought about riding……..

Anything like that is a healthy choice for getting ready to enter the track riding world.

There are a lot of great people to ask questions on this forum, riders with MUCH more track experience then I. Pick their brains……….just watch out for those soft spoken fellers like Jody.

As far as games go I also recommend Tourist Trophy. I dont know if that is on 360 or PS3 but I have the PS2 and its a blast.
MotoGP07 is also a blast.

I have it, but I just thought the TT was supposed to be a cut above.
