more info - sad...

Woman dies after falling off speeding motorcycle

A woman was killed early Sunday after she was thrown off a motorcycle and fell nearly 20 feet to the ground in central Houston, authorities said.

The motorcycle she was a passenger on was traveling north on the Southwest Freeway at high speed around 3:45 a.m when the male driver lost control of the bike on the Spur 527 interchange, authorities said.

The motorcycle skidded several feet and hit a retaining wall, throwing the pair off the motorcycle and over the spur about 20 feet below, authorities said.

The man landed in a grassy area, while the woman fell onto the right shoulder of the Southwest Freeway, authorities said.

Both were taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead. Her identity is pending notification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, is reported to be in stable condition, authorities said. It is unclear whether the woman was wearing a helmet.

No further information was immediately available.
