NEW TO THE SCENE LOOKIN FOR ADVICE...

WHATS POPPIN MOTO H-TOWN FAM!WHATS A GOOD STARTER FOR SOMEONE TO GET? I HAVE TALKED WITH A BUNCH OF EXPERIENCED RIDERS AND 2 HAVE CONSISTENTLY BEEN BROUGHT UP...I'VE HEARD THAT NINJAS ARE GOOD (ALL 4 OF THEM RIDE KAWASAKI'S)...I'VE HEARD THE 250 AND THE 500 ARE THE BEST TO START ON...I AM THINKIN MORE TOWARDS GOIN WIT THE 500 RATHER THAN THE 250 BECAUSE THEY ALL SAY THIS...IF I WERE 18 AND JUST LEARNING TO RIDE/DRIVE ETC. U NEED TO FIRST GET SOME ROAD KNOWLEDGE...SINCE I AM 23 NOW THEY SAY I HAVE THE ROAD SMARTS AS FAR AS WATCHING FOR THE DRIVING OF OTHERS, BEING ALERT OF TRAFFIC AND ALL AROUND HIGHWAY AND STREET EXPERIENCE...THEY ALSO SAID THAT ON A 250 I MAY BE 6 TO 7 MONTHS BEFORE I WANT MORE POWER FROM THE BIKE...2 OF THEM SAID THEY STARTED ON 500'S AND ARE GLAD BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS FELT THE POWER WAS ENOUGH FOR THEM AND WHEN THEY WANTED MORE THEY COULD TUNE IT TO GET ALMOST THE POWER OF A 650...JUS WANT A FEW OF THE EXPERIENCED RIDERS TO SHOOT ME A FEW LINES OF ADVICE AND OR KNOWLEDGE...100

I recently rode a Ninja 650R, and that's one of a streetbike. If you honestly have a level head on your shoulders, I'd look into that. If you know you may want to get a little crazy at times, a 250 or 500 may be in order. If you pick up a used 250, you'll generally be able to sell it for about what you paid for it, and they tend to sell pretty quick, so don't worry about wanting more power within a year.

I'd suggest a 250 ... even if you end up selling it in 6 months, you'll still be able to get most of what you paid for if not all ... and they sell pretty quick too. Plus ... it's hard to beat 60mpg

The Ninja 250 for '08 is a saweet bike, and would be great to start on. The Ninja 500 would also be a great bike to start on.

With the Suzuki SV 650 or Ninja 650, they still have LOTS of power, and plenty enough to keep you happy instead of "upgrading" to a 600 or 750. While they may not have all the straight line speed of the inline 4 600/ 750 bikes, they out-handle and can over all out perform them where the riding is really fun.

My personal favorite bikes for someone who is new is (in order):

Ninja 250
Ninja 500
Ninja 650
SV 650

Welcome to the forum. Get whatever you could afford/budget. Doesn't have to be a 250. You handle the bike not the other way around. Aware of your surrounding and respect the power.
