I started riding dirt bikes when i was young rode small street bikes here and there. then finally at 20 i got a my first "big" bike. a gixxer 750 ,only about four months ago by the way. you dont realize what a bike can do to you until that first spill. at sixteen, honestly i dont think you have the self control or the responsibility to handle a bike. its like a loaded gun. ive layed my down twice and now im going down to a 600. the life insurance policy is a good idea if you go through with it.

Mike Hakw, not trying to pick on you... but even with all that experience you've crashed a few times right?

So DpWrath... you might have dreams of riding to school to pick up chicks, doing wheelies infront of the cheerleaders and showing up to school with a helmet, you need to think about the realities.

I don't think anyone here is trying to be a d!ck... but we don't want to see you get hurt. And a 16 yr old with a 600cc supersport and no prior experience is a recipe for some serious hurt!

while i consider a ninja 250 a great start into motorcycling, i'd recommend a cheap used one vs brand new. it's a learning tool, no need to blow a wad, then sell it 1yr later and take the depreciation hit.

first bike, start small (500cc or less) buy cheap, buy CASH.

i'd want brand new, but i guess that's just me... i'd tear that lil bike up for as long as possible and since i got younger siblings, then that's cool cuz it will stay in the family for a while. but like i said, thas jus me

thats a great option.........one of my friends has 26,000mi on hins ninja 250........but alas, many of these peeps are "the latest and greatest" type riders........i don't expect them to keep the 250, i would've loved to have kept ours, but my wife bought it before we were married @ 21% int. and we woulda been stupid to have kept it....i got her/us out of it ASAP.

man if you got a 250-500 you could still role with us where not biasted but i really realy realy would rather see you spend 2 years driving a car where you are some what safe then when you turn 18 getting a litlle bike say a 500 or something then ride it for a while or better yet get a on/off road bike and have fun all the time thats next on my list of goodies after the 50

Yeah, I say take the MSF course... get a used Ninja 250... and come ride with (some) of us. You'll need a real strong core of skills, and the the best way you'll learn is by riding with good, skilled and patient riders. Some people here can probably help you out. I've worked with lots of newer riders over the past few years and once I get my bike street prepped after the last trackday I'd be more than happy to go on some rides with you.

Remember, in addition to the bike... you'll want a good helmet, leather jacket, leather gloves and some good heavy duty boots (preferably riding boots).

Best of luck bro...

Make sure you get a Busa. .. dont wear any gear either, it just slows you down. Make sure you try to race every mullett wearing camero driving red-neck out there in DP. And if you dont win at least wheelie past him and flick him off.

Its just good sense!
