Yesterday morning I spent the day on the Battleship Texas, listening to an 87 year old gentleman who served on the vessel during WWII. There is no better tour guide, than a person who had first hand experience/knowledge. He was leading the actual tour guides around. It was incredible.

I, myself, was never in the US military, but my father was a Naval flight instructor based in Corpus, where a student crashed the plane killing all on board.
