Is the R1 the most gremlin plagued bike?

Who here rides and 07 or 08 R1? I've been doing some research and I've seen a lot of mechanical issues (5500 throttle lag not withstanding mind you) that the R1's in general seem to have. Throttle flat spots, exup valve issues, electrical glitches, stalling etc....Are they considered to be mechanically plauged with gremilns a lot? I want one because I like how they look and have always, but I don't want to get a bike that I have to constantly be taking to the dealership to fix something. No I am not basing my purchase later this year on looks alone, that's silly! I'm teetering on getting either an R1 or sticking with Kawi and get a 09 10r. So, I'm interested in feedback from Houston riders who have an R1 and what issues (if any hopefully not) people have running the bike here in Houston. I would use the liter for street riding mainly as I'm keeping my 636 for the track. Any ideas appreciated.

Dasboot, you say you're downtown if you don't mind me asking, is your bike blue? There is this R1 (think it's an 04) that I see in the garage I work at a few times, CLEAN BIKE. CF parts galore, aftermarket levers, rearsets, Ohilins full forks, damper, rear shock, brembo mc's front and rear, termi exhaust (probably a full system). Not a scratch on that bike. Shiny blue! It's nice. Dude's probably got at least 6K or more in suspension alone.

I've heard that the older R1's have a bit better low end than the 06 and newer ones.

I own an 07 R1, and have NONE of the problems you have. I have a custom (Patrick) Leo Vince exhaust tuned and PC3'd by Patrick, and it's never sputtered, gaged, coughed or acted like it wasn't a roid-drunk monkey. I'm the king of controlling unwanted wheelies now. had it at the track and it was smooth as glass too. (MSR)

Really, how much is he asking for it? I wanted to leave my business card on it but I'm a "look but don't touch" when it comes to other peoples stuff. I didn't see an ad for it in teh FS section. I saw it earlier this week

they have eliminated the lag problem and i heard that the trottle bodies stick but never seen it or felt it... ive ridden many miles on an 07 and no problem. the lag problem will gladly be fixed by dealer on 07's.

p.s. it is an awesome bike for sure...plenty of power everywhere

Any new model will have bugs to work out; usually better to wait a year and let them iron it out. But thats a preference from what I see in the field.

I don't like the ergos on the gixxers, heck I flat foot the 08 1000! Ergo wise the kawi and R1 are the best that fits me.

That's why I wanted to wait for an 08! And if I decide on the 10r, I'd get an 09 since that would be the second year of their redesign. I talked to a Yami dealer and the guy was quite crass about the mech issues when I asked him about possible fixes. Big time downplaying it if you ask me. Sure I know some may not have issues, but me and my luck I'd get a lemon!

personally i dislike how thin the seat gets close to the tank, i usually ride close to the tank and wouldnt like a wedge between my junk and legs..

throttle lag is only on 07's and the dealer will replace ecu w/ no problem to fix it. I have the exup on mine removed so I haven had any issues w/ it. Had 12k b4 i had an accident, but never had any issues. Alot of mid and high range power. Low end isn't as strong so i went -1 on front sprocket.

Since I fixed bike wed. seems to run just as strong.

I just had the same problem with my '04 and had it fixed, 15,200 miles.
