bike question

hey, i was looking at getting this 95 yzf 600, well i checked it out today and the guy said it was gonna need a new seal for the piston because it was going bad,

i was just wondering if anyone had an idea what somthing like this would cost.

also there was a little bit of white smoke, that he told me was because of the seal.

he is asking 1800 and i was just wondering if that sounded like a good deal to yall.

the bike has 37k miles on it new tires oil just changed and it and a few other minor up grades

any input would be aprieciated

Is this your first bike? If so, don't buy a project bike. The yamaha is a great bike. That is not. You want a solid and dependible bike for your first ride. You have to know that it will take care of you while you learn.
If not, and tinkering is your thing, go for it. A new top end is not cheap though. Consider the money and time you will put into it, buy one that's mechanically sound!!!

ya it wouldnt be a first bike just a step up from what i am riding right now.

also the owner has records from it coming out of the shop a few weeks ago where he got a few things fixed and thats when they found the seal was bad.

did he say why the seal was going bad like it was smoking? is it smoking? $1800 is too much especially since it will run another $500 to tear down the engine.
