i was sitting at a light the other day and put my bike in nuetral....i was sitting there and the light turned green so i pulled in the clutch and tryed to push the lever thing down into first gear....it wouldnt go.....sometimes it does that so i just release the clutch then repull it in and it goes into first...this time it didnt work the second time either....i had to just go up into 2nd and skip first because people were waiting.... i dont know waht is going on w. the bike but it scared me...its a 98 gsxr600....any ideas...

i get that problem sometimes. i don't know if this is the right thing to do, but i rev the engine a bit, and then shift, but not in high RPMs. Maybe rev it to 4000 or so and then let it come down to 2 or find what feels right.

keep your bike in first gear when your stopped at a light in case you need to take off from a runaway object.

if the gear doesnt want to engage, roll the bike forward or backward while trying to shift until it falls into place.

Yeah I know what your talking about, that happens to me sometimes when I'm going a little too fast to be in 2nd gear. It makes a clanking noise a loada times, then once I slow down a bit then I'm able to shift up to 2nd from neutral.
