Unhappy it had to happen eventually...

I was riding on dairy ashford in the left of 3 lanes, and someone 2 cars up went to take a left across the median (no turn lane). So the truck behind them wasn’t paying attention and hit his brakes at the last second and locked up his tires and started skidding. I did a quick shoulder check to the right and there was a car coming up quick, so no swerve. I emergency braked, locked up the back tire and it just kept on skidding until I lowsided behind the truck in front of me.

Cracked front left fairing, scratched crankcase, scratched passenger peg. I don’t have a scratch on me.

Photo 0158 That's no reflection, it pushed the fairing against the frame and left blue marks.

Photo 0160

Good that there was no injury, but still… dang. First one and I barely put 600 miles on her.

So is that an easy fix?

no tickets no nothing. The cop said I was the only one involved (yeah I'm sure people lay their bikes down going in a straight line with no obstructions all the time) so I'm stuck with the repair bill basically.

in the end it was your own fault, and he coulda wrote you a ticket, IF you made contact w/ that truck.

how much of this accident was your fault?

well, I hate to rag on you, but knowing your surroundings ahead of time woulda gone a long way, you didnt need to bring it to a stop, just drop speed fast enough to get behind the passing car ... but again, you woulda had to have known what all else was around you. Oh well, 20/20 hindsight

again the important part is you not being hurt

the damage looks merely cosmetic and can easily be fixed. it is a good thing you were wearing all your gear or this little incident could've ended up at the hospital.

One of the main reasons I always ride on the leftest lane is to have an easy emergency escape route[the shoulder lane] in case I know I'm not going to be able to stop in time.
