That is really good advice for ya. If you don't have much experience on bikes, there's a pretty fair chance that the course will save your life—especially if you're going to ride in Houston.

The course will also give you a little better idea about what kind of bike you'd like to start on.

Your first bike should be a cheap one though. Not an unsafe one, but something that you won't hate yourself for dropping, because you're going to drop your first bike at some point. Check the classifieds on these forums and the motorcycle section on Craig's List regularly.

Most bikes 500cc or less (four stroke road bikes, not dirt bikes) will make good bikes to learn on.

Some ideas: Ninja 250, Ninja 500, GS500, SV650 (debatable).

Good luck.... and ride safe.

If you get a Buell, I'd go with the new 1125R. But for a first bike and you're STILL looking at Buell, go with the Lightening or the Bolt. Both have proven to be great handling bikes.

Get whatever bike you want just ride it at your own skill set.

yeah man, not to worried about keeping up with anyone yet, just want to take it easy and learn to ride, once i feel like i can handle more power, then i'll buy a bigger bike.
