I also do not want to spend more than $4 a quart, so this should help narrow down my search.

Thanks in advance.
You're picky but you don't want to spend more than $4/qt. ?????

Buy AMSOIL and be done with it. It's more expensive but it's all I'll ever use going forward. I think I paid around $35 for oil and filter to do my last change.

+1 for AMSOIL oil +filter. I use it in the car, truck, and bike. The bike shift much easier. If you're a perferred customer, you get the oil for about the same as any syn you can buy in the store.

Rotella T from Wally World. It smoothed my shifting out. I don't know what was in there last.

Here's some good info on motor oils: Motorcycle Oil and Filters

Try living with him, he is this picky. When I go with him to shop for oil, everytime I suggest something it's never what he wants. Maybe I should just go buy it for him, I will pay the extra few dollars.

I used mobil 1 synthetic once and the bike felt kind of harsh during hard acceleration and shifting. Therefore, I went back to Amsoil synthetic and my bike seems to love it and so do I. Although a little expensive it's pretty worth it... supposedly the only real full synthetic oil in the market.

the thing about oil is if its clean and the viscosity hasn't broke down its good i use to run regular penzoil in my ranger i wouldn't change it for 15k to 20k until the oil broke down and then i would change it but like they are saying oil is cheap insurance and preventative maintenance is the cheapest and amsoil is the s#!t i ran it for at least 120K in the ranger before i sold it I'm not a big fan of rp i had diesel that use to eat that stuff but wouldn't eat amsoil really its preference there's only like 3 plants that i know of that process motor oil (don't quote me on that) its the additives that are in it that matter so find the one that's going to do what you want it to do and try a few before you make your mind up i would be cautious about 50 weight its got big particles in them not sure on a bike but i know on a car that it cant always get into the tighter spaces in the engine to lubricate it in certain engines have real tight tolerance like +- .001 50 cant get in there

I don't know how some people can enjoy owning a motorcycle. Quit worrying and go ride.

Get him some Repsol, Amsoil or Motul full synthetic (10-40 or 20-50) and he'll love it.
