To the Officers on here

Ok, well this morning I was pulled over in my car. I was given a ticket for one brake light being out and my license plate being in my windshield. My car did not some with mounting hardware for a plate in the front bumber. My question is what is the actuall law regarding the license plate? I also want to know about what to tell the judge about my car not having a left brake light? I am sorry but I am just really upset that he wants to give me a BS ticket for this. I been pulled over once by a State Trooper coming home from the valley. He stop me for the plate not being vissable in the front and told me that the windshield would be fine. Makes me wonder why he didn't say anything about my rear plate being in the window as well. I have a plate box in the window with light and all. He was trying to give me a hassell because there was no light that you can see light up the plate. When there is one but just hidden to not be seen. The plate lights up really bright when at night not at 7:40am. If you guys can help me out with what is the actuall law on this issue?

I am not an officer but the plate up front needs to be visible at a distance of 50ft. So take a picture of it with it in the front windshield and show it to the judge. Take a receipt for the light being fixed as well. They should drop everything. They use these things like the plate and the light to get you stopped. Then they have just cause to probe further. It is amazing how many dope runners and such they catch on COPS just for the items you mentioned.

In my opinion, it's a corrective action ticket. Fix the problems, take photos and show it to the DA with a $10 fee. After that it's your call to keep it or go back to your normal setup. Because a car doesn't come with the hardware doesn't mean it's not up to you to have it on there. I have been given years back from having a plate in the back window of a truck and not at the rear of the vehicle.

I am not an officer, but take it for what it's worth. They aren't moving violations at least.

i got pulled over in my truck for no plates in teh front and just put the plate up fron in the correct spot and took a picture and showed the judge and he dismissed it. so that shouldnt be a problem. i would fix the back light and do the same... take a picture and show the judge that its fixxed, not just the receipt.

Yea I can agree with that about not being a moving violation. I just think it is funny I have a honda hatch so the back window is as far back as you can get. The front can be visable from far but I guess I will just add the hardware for it. I went and got a new set of bulbs and the clips to hole the plate in the bumper. I guess he was wanting to meet the unspoken quota this month. I just think that I have to go threw all this hassell when he could have easily said I will just give you a warning. Now I have to go to Lubbock and deal with all this. I ride clean and have all my plates insurance and everything up to date why give me a ticket for this if there is nothing else you can find wrong?

do you still have to pay court costs if a judge dismisses? I don't know how that works, anytime you enter courtroom fee charged?

Well that is good to know that might not be a fee. I just hate going to lubbock and dealing with always being crowded. On the bright side this time it is not scheduled for when I get out being rush hour traffic They have me going at 9pm to show up. Maybe just got sit at a bar around 7 and go there after a few drinks

Not the one I bought everything was shaved on the car so the box that goes on the hatch door is gone. I am not about to cut into it again or the plastic bumper I am trying to keep everything shaved on the car. I am trying to customize it some more.

That is what I said when I read the ticket whe I finally got to work. A friend of mine has had people say they have them up to 11pm that is how busy they are. I think that is crazy to be there that late for a ticket. I might just call to make sure the cop didn't mean 9am.

Oh I was going to fix it and get the bulb today anyways. I had to get one while I was out buying a new paint gun. I know I need to have that fixed, don't need anyone running into me.

They do hold court at 9PM believe it or not. But you can go to the court at any time to show the judge that you fixed the items. No need in having to wait for the court date. Just go up there with the evidence in hand, ask to see the judge to get them dismissed and bam you're done. Do it on your own time before the court date.

Take it to a shop and get both fixed immediately and keep the receipt. Set your ticket for court and present the receipt to the judge. Have a nice day.
