taking a hit.. would u do it?

i bought a new 08 victory kingpin on an impulse buy a few months ago. i love the bike but its just not me. there is no fun factor like a sport bike. im deciding whether i should take a few thousand dollar hit to trade in towards an 08 zx10r. would you do it? i just dont get excited about riding the cruiser like i do about a sport bike.

Try and sell it outright first.

If you trade it in you will take it up the a*&.... and probably still owe them money for the ZX.

+1

Try to sell it outright yourself for a month or so and then trade that joker if it doesn't sell.

havnt been trying too hard to sell. i know it would be best to sell outright. problem is have to come up with the difference i owe out of my pocket to pay off the loan. if i do a trade in, i can work the difference into the new loan.

good point, well I would say go w/the plan that is going to cost you the least amount overall...unless you just need to be able to finance the roll-over in which case ask for some K-Y when you talk to the salesman about the trade

sell the kingpin and pay it off. Whatever you got "left", use that amount to see what sportbike you can afford. Doesn't have to be an '08 does it? I'll bet you can get a pretty nice used sportbike for that money.

Sell it outright. When you have a buyer, take it to the dealership that you are planning to buy the zx-10 from. Have the buyer pay the dealer for the bike, and whatever is left roll into the zx-10. You will take a much smaller hit that way and the dealership doesn't have to try and sell the kingpin. It is kind of a win-win situation. Car dealers do it all the time. If they want to make the sale bad enough, they will do it. It isn't any sweat off of their back. Here is an example of what I am talking about:

These are just example numbers:

If you just traded it in to the dealer:
Amount Owed: 12,000
Dealer Trade-In Value: 10,000
Negative Equity: -2,000
New Zx-10: 11,000
Plus Negative Equity: 2,000
Total price out the door: 13,000

If you sold it and then had them meet you at the dealership:
Amount Owed: 12,000
Price sold to individual: 11,000
Negative Equity: -1,000
New Zx-10: 11,000
Plus Negative Equity: 1,000
Total price out the door: 12,000
Dealer: 1 less bike to sell!

GL with the sale dude!

Take the hit. I took the hit when I traded in the M109R after a month for the R1 and never looked back.

HUGE +1

I got my 2004 ZX-10R a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. 2008's are supposed to be performing great and I'd love to own one as well. However, at the end of the day when I look at my bike one last time before heading inside, I know I am much happier with my 2004 than a shiny new (ugly) 2008
