well first.. welcome to MH .. secondly you will find all your questions answered here ...atleast most when it comes to bikes. Before you buy a bike I suggest you go take MSF (Awesome Cycles) .. then after riding some of their bikes you will know which one or kind you wanna get... go to your neighborhood motorcycle store and feel some of them out.. and see which one u like the best..

I will let some others here.. put in their 2 cents.

When you take MSF .. at the end of the course they give you a certificate you take that to your local DPS and they endorse your license with "M" for motorcycle license.. and ofcouse you need insurance to ride the bike on the streets.. and most imp. proper safety apparel... i hope this answers your question.

You have to take the MSF then take your written test at the DMV to get your M on your license.

Or you dont take the MSF and you must pass a really hard *and HUGE HUGE LINE* riding portion where you supply the bike AND the car AND a driver for the person testing you to ride shotgun with, then you do your thing and get the M.

Take the MSF.

To be legal in Texas you have to have a gun rack! DUH!

Nah, take the MSF so you get an insurance discount then go take the written @ the DMV, get you some good gear, oh yeah and don't forget to get a good bike for YOU (not what's cool, or what works for your buddy). Then come on out and ride!
