i guess it is really personal thoughts when you consider what you'll be using it for. could drop alot or it could drop just a little.

my bike has a salvaged title...but the frame has never been touched/damaged.

Jason let a guy ride it and he laid it down @ about 15 mph or so and the whole right side [i think] had to have new plastics.

Well since the cost of the repairs > 80% of the bike's worth, insurance company totalled it, we bought it back and fixed it ourselves.

Bike is in complete working condition and is just as good as new, never had any major problems with it.

Salvaged bike titles are completely different from salvaged car titles...

THIS IS THE REAL REASON WHY SALVAGE TITLES MAKE YOUR VALUE DROP....

example:

you are riding your salvaged title bike, and some idiot doesn't see you and pulls into your lane and taps you off your bike. your bike is in pieces....it is THEIR fault....their insurance will only pay 50% of what the bike is worth because of the salvage title.

some states won't allow full coverage on salvage title vehicles as well. you can get liability with theft, but again, if you're vehicle is stolen insurance will only pay you 50% of what a clean titled vehicle would be worth.

so you can judge by that, is it worth it to you?

if you're just buying a trackbike, off road toy, or something where liability is not an issue.....by all means, there is nothing wrong with a salvage title as long as it runs good.

my thoughts exactly, i feel salvage title degrades value by at least 50% due to this fact. insurance only covers 50% of value. so you find a clean looking '02 gsxr1000 with low miles and its worth 6k. i would not pay more than 3k for the bike w/ salvage title.

half price bikes. you wont find one half price if its already fixed. maybe wrecked but thats it. resale purposes a salvage titled bike will usually go for a grand less than a clean titled bike

i see them going for 30-40% less when already fixed. depending on damage you can get them quite a bit cheaper than 50% retail when already wrecked. imho salvages are a horrible idea! you never really know the extent of the damage, there is a good chance theres hidden problems, if you wreck youre screwed as insurance only covers 50% or value... etc... salvage would be good for a track bike or stunt bike if you get a good deal on one.
